Very true, chasing Corwin across the dales his stock suspensioned Autech he could go much faster that I felt comfortable with over the bumpy undulating surface, however get it on some decent surfaced b-roads and he just cant hang.
But take the coilys too far and too stiff, and even on good B roads it'll be too much. Depends how dedicated you want the car to be to a 'track' set up. But even then i'm sure its far more beneficial to get stiffer springs to start with than upping the pre-load to try and get the same effect.
Craig has it spot on, changing preload on a linear rate spring doesn't change its rating, a 10kg/mm spring will always be 10kg/mm (well until its coil bound lol), but preload it by 10mm and it won't compress any further until more than 100kg of load is placed on it, from then on it will act as normal, so 110kg will compress it 1mm, 150kg 5mm and so on, or preload it 20mm and it would require more than 200kg to compress any farther (this is just an example, if you need 20mm preload its time to move to stiffer springs ). So while it doesn't affect the actual spring rate it does affect the required compression force and as such the cars handling.
Well I myself keep debating an openmouth grill...but it would have to have the Nissan badge on it, but I don't want to remove the bonnet badge so it would look strange, but as you have no bonnet badge then give it a try
