Eddies Ride

It was a hard day yesterday but glad we got it all finished before it got dark. The brace at the back is probably excessive to be fair but I always err on the side of caution so there can't be any question that it's strong enough to cope with almost any situation. The rear braces are both welded to the chassis too. The top one is welded around the top and side and the bottom brace is welded around the turret hole and underneath to the turret top plate. The fender braces are both welded at the front for extra security/stiffness.
We decided against the traingular braces in this case as Eddie wanted a centre vertical strut in and the diagonals off that would have looked messy and put too much strain on the rear-most beam of the ladder at the bottom. Really happy with how it went together. As an unknown quantity when it arrived it's turned into a really nice project. I think this is the most chassis modifications on a road car on the forum (open to correction). The3omb may have a stiffer set-up overall but it is a purpose built race car.
With the sill rails, fender bars, rear strut and top brace in it all ties together through the A, B and C pillars to provide a very strong and stiff spaceframe (almost).

Front brace to follow soon to finish the frame.

Nice work, but how hard can you drive on the road to say the mods you are doing justify it.

I know that if i ragged mine to death on the road, smoking tyres, and on 3 wheels, I would be taken away by the boys in blue.
I just can't go as mad as I would like on the road the way my car is now.

I am sure a normal front and rear strut brace along with coilovers are good enough for a road car.

But great work Spook and Eddie never the less.

Probably about 10 kgs all in all. It's always going to be a balance between weight and handling (for racing anyway). If you can improve you lap time/quarter mile time by more than you'd save with the reduction in weight it's a net gain. I know this isn't a track car but I'd be surprised if it doesn't see a few laps in the next year.
If I had an ally welder I think you'd be onto a winner.

I'll bite my tongue as not fan the flame's so this doesn't go bk to how thing's used to be but I think its a bit overkill but each to their own and all that! :) Though it does look impressive and good work from Spook.

Haven't decided on what one to go with, in regards to how low they sit. Want a 4 point but can't remember if Cusco or Whiteline sat lower will get round to it shortly

I had a trouble getting into spooks workplace yesterday as it was, may have to raise the car slightly.. don't want to do my splitter in like you did hah otherwise ill be taking pills for torrets

Your chassis wont be tight until you get one no matter how much difference you feel. And I don't care for the shitty splitter going fast is far better than looking fast

Sent from my X10i using my penis

I was disappointed with how the car felt leaning towards going for a proper chassis like a EK9 setup. Chassis flex induced by force isn't linear and can prove quite unnerving to the driver at times.

Abstract view '' It is often quoted that to be able to make a car handle properly by tuning the handling balance, the chassis should have torsional stiffness of 'X' times the suspension stiffness'' ... makes sense really as with all the suspension mods I had gone too far one way, unbalancing the ratios quite alot.

lololololololorama

The whiteline sits lower than the Cusco AFAIK

I think you just need to take it easy with the splitter and how low the car sits, damo bust his loading onto a trailer everywhere else was fine even when we were going to get a few pics of the car when it was finished we had to pass over 2 nasty little speedbumps to get into the car park and not once did it catch

All this stuff you`re doing is adding weight to the car.

Weight = slow = poor fuel consumption.

You must have deep pockets if you plan on using this as a daily!

Serious question:

How much would you sell the car as is for?

At least if I had it, it`d be used to its full potential, instead of currently being the`road bling trophy car`that it now is under your possession.

i think i know where you are coming from about comparing this car to the sri eddie. This si with all new wishbones a polys and better coilovers doesnt give me the confidence that the sri did so i ge the chassis stifening. Like the fender braces.

I cant help thinking simply triangulating down from the gti brace holes to the spook brace would work just as well and be much lighter.

get the ride lifted and a lower brace on and feel EPICCCCC!

Fred no offense I wouldn't want to sell it to you... especially after what you have just said

Can a mod please clean up some of the spam please

No. You're just going to have deal with it and put on your flame suit. It's not offensive, and it's not spam.

I'd agree that feeling these differences on the road isn't the best way to claim big improvements, Iv tried that before and on track you suddenly notice a huge difference with braces etc that you wouldn't on the road

But tbh I like the work done and I'd say it will make a good difference, it's all stuff done for a good reason and with plenty of strength behind it. You can moan he's added more weight than he will gain in improvements, but tbh it's just a crap argument, he probably hasnt added more than 15kg and that's not going to take much of an improvement to show a gain is it? And it's hardly like anyone is in time attack, you would have much more fun in a good handling car on track than one that handles worse but is 0.003 seconds quicker..........
