Made a little progress today as i had the day off.
Went to test fit a piston yesterday and the rod was too wide to fit into the D16 pistons, took them down Chesman motorsport today to get them ground back 2mm. Fitted a piston (pictures to follow), slapped the cylinder head on to check valve to piston clearance at TDC. . . 6mm translates to shit loads.
Bloke assured me i wouldnt lose any strength as the material that was removed is not a stress point so no worries about shot peening etc
The D16 pistons sit 0.7mm lower in the cylinder than stock GA even tough the compression height it supposed to be the same 20mm as GA.
Next I need to see how this 0.7mm difference affects my expected compression ratio and work it out exactly, confident of it still being around 12:1 though, hopefully get that done at the weekend.
Once YCP get back to me on how much the piston will expand i can take the whole bottom end to Chesmans and get it balanced, bored and honed.
So close, getting excited now. I can actually get stuck in.
