Help with ga**de to sr20de please

Keep us all posted on how the conversion goes. I've got d0b0's old gti in my driveway with full running gear, waiting to trade places with my Ga14 (my advantage is full N15 gear, including loom, nats, fobs etcetc so it's literally a straight swap).

im going to tackle the main loom at the weekend, the only problem i can see is behind the fuse box there is a big square plug socket, this was a bitch to unclip fro m the doner gti and it hadent a dash, dont really want to take the dash out of the car to fit this

It sounds like the same problem Jonnyrad had with his sunny, only backwards, he was trying to put a lowport almera sr20 into a 1.6 sunny - whereas you're putting a highport into a newer car, but the wiring wouldnt work because it was a newer engine in an older car or something. In the end he had to get a highport engine and it went straight in.

Spoke to him yesterday and he said if you get an almera GTi wiring loom it should be easier, but you'll still have to solder some connections on the loom off the 1.4.

ok thanks mate, I text Jonnyrad and we thought that too, I asked for a loom in the wanted section a few days ago as well for this purpose. Also spoken to a few other people and will probably tackle it again at the weekend :)

your best bet is to rip one out of a scrappy car if you can find one. I'm not just planning an engine transplant though, I'm basically reshelling a written off Gti so I shouldn't have too much soldering and stuff to do. Hoping that I can get it to a stage where it's just the bare shell, then I can get a full respray to a deeper black.

ok as a few of u are keen to hear about the progress of this I have a lot to report.

The engine is in and wired up! The only problem is I need a new ignition coil (which is expected to be here Monday). The whole thing is back together as well, shafts in, the gti disks, pads, braided lines and calipers are fitted and the wheels are back on! All exciting stuff.

The back axle is going on today. Then he has just got a few bits left to do like put the exhaust on and then I will be having it back getting an engineers report done then fitting and getting the bodykit sprayed along with a few other bits I want to do to tidy her up.

I've started ordering a few bits to bling up the engine and get her looking sweet!

cheers mate, have got over the wiring hurdle now I think though. Will let you know when I hear her running.

i didnt think mine was that bad, was expecting it to be a pain getting up behind the dash to connect up. but wasent

just to connect some wires in the engine bay, and change the ignition barrels over for the extra wire the gti loom has

He's using an older engine though so there was a bigger difference between the looms, let us know how you sorted it mate coz me and jonny gave up trying to figure it out!

right lol, the wriring is all done and the only problem now is that it seems something like an immobiliser is kicking in and not letting the plugs spark, is this what jonnyrad had? The mechanic doing it has got all of the really chunky nissan books with the complete wiring diagrams in them and said that he will spend a whole day on it again while he has got it all in his head and should hopefully get it running. (cos he said pottering around it for an odd hour at a time gets him knowhere).

It hasnt been worked on much recently because over easter there is a local hill-climb and sprint so he has been helping people prepare for this and also preparing the ambulance as he is the team leader or something. I will let you know of any more progress though.

Just to recap back axle is on, front brakes all sorted, engine in etc just need to adapt the linkages and get the engine running.

Thanks

Hate to say it but that's a job for Nissan, lucky for me my local Nissan Showroom Garage reprogrammes the immobiliser to sort the problem (£15) but I hear from Rim that not every Nissan garage are so forthcoming. The other thing to note is that you may have to reconfigure the distributor a bit to make sure it sparks properly.

how about if i remove the imobilisor from the loom?

andf how do I configure the distributor mate, I'm using the primera sr20de one, thanks

Seems a little silly to remove the NATS immobiliser but go right ahead if you want to.
As for the distributor, I had mine sent off to an electrician as I didn't know how to do it either, sorry.

dont think my car has the nats imobiliser, as there is a extra wire in the gti loom, im assuming this is for the nats? that would go to the ingntion barrel

still having problems with this, I presume it is NATS. Everything is getting power it just won't spark. Got a new coil etc. How do I go about wiring it without NATS for now? Thanks

ok I know a few of you are interested in this so I'll update it a bit.

The engine is running and sounds great (not as loud as I thought it would be though :() Nats and everything is working fine and so is the rev counter. Just need to get the speedo working but my mechanic reckons that'll be done next time hes works on it. The only other issue is that the exhaust is sitting about an inch to far back so I've got to have a section aken out of the decat pipe then it should sit fine.

So overall the car is about 90% done mechanic wise then just needs its trip to the bodyshop and a few bits of bling added. Will post pics soon. Thanks
