My Green GTi

The bit on the ends of the rods that turn your wheels :P. They have rubber in them that car wear over time and go sloppy.

ahhhh ok, will have to have a look tomorrow after work now, gotta go to work very shortly and i finish late today so it will be too dark to have a look. :(

Your car has come along nicely, but where's that front splitter hiding :P

cheers :)

i have a front spiltter but its split in half, it needs repairing with fibreglass and spraying as its blue at the moment :(

i need to repair it on the bumper me thinks :)

looks nice hunny

i dont think it has anything to do with the powersteering guys. doesnt feel like that, well, i've never had a car that feels like this due to power steering problem

tbh, i think it just a combination of the shock fucked, worn top mount, and the condition of the 100k bushes

when you are driving along, if you go over a rough patch in the road, bump etc the wheel gets really quite vilently pulled to the side.

as said babe, we need to get it through the mot, then spend some money and time on it.

pulling to a side could be

nackered power steering, although i'd imagine it would be hard to steer.
nackered track rod ends
tracking out
castor out (worn wishbone bushes)
Camber out (unlikely on stock suspension)
badly tracked (all adjustment made on one side)
Loose knuckle arm bolt (bottom mount bolts)

its unlikely to be leaky shocks causing the problem... i have three of them i should know.
you've changed alloy recently, same width and profile tyres? same offset? if not get the tracking done before the tyres eat themselves into nothingness. you've changed the suspension geometry

it was doing the same before the alloys dude

all those things you have described above bar possibly the track rods would cause constant pulling to the side. where as this is just the immediate effect after going over a bump

It's not that they're leaky, it's that they don't do anything lol. And it's on stock springs so it's like the titanic.

hmm so maybe its the rebound on the shock not being quick enough? possible i suppose.

i've got two stock front shocks and springs you can borrow if you want but i'd need em back sometime... they are non gti but they will be fine for a temporary patch up until you get phil's

pm me if your interested

You definetly made the right choice like i did with the grille !:D -looks brilliant ! (dunno bout you but i get alot more attention now lol ) -will be interested to see how much better it will look with the front splitter aswell ! :D

Cheers dude, i haven't driven it for a couple of weeks now so i haven't had a chance to notice the attention lol, im avoiding driving it at the moment cuz its a death trap, something to do with the steering :( i now have a gti front bumper with ph1 splitter attached but its in red so i need to get my hands dirty and get some fibreglass, filler and sandpaper, i was thinking of smoothing the splitter into the bumper, hmmm. Cheers for the comment, was talking to phil earlier and could be up for a mini meet somewhere next sunday? If your up for it? :)

hey Kez -just seen the meet thread -been busy at Uni recently so haven't been on here alot lol sorry couldn't make it unfortunately i work on Sundays :( -hope you had a good meet !! -smoothing the splitter into the bumper sounds a like an interesting idea good luck with that !

P.s like the Avatar btw ;) can't resist showing our front bumpers off with the 2 slat griles now ! lol :D

Bit of an update:

My mera has just passed the MOT, second time round, after failing at nissan, so i took it somewhere else and they sorted it for me.

What i have done: (with help from monka)

new discs brakes + pads all round

new rear KYB shocks with lowering springs and second hand front KYBs (cheers phil ;) )

team dynamics alloys back on, with a new bit of colour that i added today!

secured lower ball joint as my steering was all over the place and pretty much coated it with lock tite.

new passenger side cv boot.

it has had some welding done on the o/s suspension component mounting, which wasnt cheap, but my mera was worth it!! lol

it has taken a while to do everything because of the weather.

heres a few pics i took today after i put it through a car wash (that was scary btw in the mera lol!!)

let me know what you think!

before it had been lowered:

now i have a front bumper to repair with a splitter and to get sprayed, i desperately need to get that dent out and to have medium tints on the rear i reckon!

Making good progress, good to see another GTi getting some TLC.

I was also just about to comment on a front bumper splitter until I read the last bit
