My PH2 GTI

Hello fellas, and ladies.

Just throwing a small update up, in the words of Gerry Adams Sinn Feinn "Havent gone away you know"

Anyway.

Car has been in the garage since January, and even at that, only out of it from November lol.
From the time in the garage, i have been working away trying my hardest to get it de-rusted, cleaned up, and running well.

I found rust on the floor... Which is fixed now, but have no images of it yet.

Here is the car (with my 106) as it sits at present.

Just another pic of the wheel arch (just liked the lowness lol)

At it sits at the min. There is only 1 small hole left to weld up on the floor, and thats, that done. Then its time for sound deadening, have the carpet wetVac'd then its time to build up the interior again.

Once complete, Rocker cover, and some other bits an pieces under the bonnet are to be sprayed, then i might just tax it and drive it for a while.

Another update to my restoration project lol.

Driver side is welded up, primed and seam sealed ready for some sound deadening again.
Passenger side nissan sound deadening is lifed, and to my surprise, not 1 bit of rust!! and no holes, which is good news. On the down side, passenger side Chassis rail needs to be replaced, so sound deadening had to be lifted, along with ripping out the fuel hoses. Going to paint these to take the bad look of them, come MOT. Here are some Images of my progress.

New Bucket Seat for Racing!!

Gonna throw another update your way lads.

Found ALOT of rust... Stuff was everywhere.. Anyway found it on the Backpanel, both inner arches, Bottom of both inner arches that is usuall,y covered by the rear bench, both rear vents behind bumper, And the passenger chassis rail.

But you will al be glad to know that its now solid as a rock. The welding is perfect, and the car is now solid as a rock.

Still need to get the car home, and get it primed, and seam sealed, before building it back up. HEre is a few snaps of the welding before i prime and seam seal it.

Back Panel (Complely cut out, shaped, and welded back in. Still need to bolt on my bumper brackets)

Fair play for carrying on when others would have given up!

Giving up wasn't an option to be honest lol,. Love the wee car, and the welding is done right (Using Oxy), and the whole thing is being done to a certain level, no short cuts. So im looking forward to another year or 2 worry free driving. Other than the rust hotspots on the car which have been cut out and re done, the car is sound. Body work is in good nick still, so y not fix it.

Well Fellas.. After all the work i put in (200 quids worth of welding, Frig knows how many Man hours, 2 Litres of Seam Sealer, 1L of Zinc Primer, 2L Underseal,, Many paint brushes, Lots of Head Rubbing, lots of tears and many hours of Mp3s... it has finally paid of.. SHE PASSED MOT FIRST TIME!!!!

Give me some love boys...Debbie the datsun lives on for another year. Here she is an hour before the MOT, you can see the fear in her headlights....

Well done on the rust killing mate :) Where you have the plates welded on the inside of the boot, drill a hole and pump it full of cavity wax, the same goes for the rest of the car, sills, chassis rails, x-member ect. Should hold the rust at bay for even longer :)

I still need to get a good cavity wax.. For hte mean time i put some new car oil down inside the sills so the water runs out of them. Any recommendations on cavity wax?

Yeah, hopefully it wont rust as quick now, as both chassis rails have been done, both rear boot vents, Rear inner arches, rear upper arches, rear bottom arches, and the rear boot panel... Some prob didnt need done, but i wanted to make sure its done right :) im anal that way

After the welding, i have zinc primed it, seam sealed and undersealed :-) no corners cut here lol

Yeah, some time has went into it, but its worth it.

I could have shut up shop and scrapped it, but i didnt, as there is only like 5 gti's in Northern Ireland, more chance seeing a bugatti Veyron in Northern Ireland, than an almera gti lol, so they are stil,l pretty rare.. Only reason i wanted to keep it :-)
