Guys newbie here just read through this thread has anyone given any thought to the problem being Timing Chain?

Shouldn't affect the light, unless it actually breaks. ;)

When mine got changed the light didn't come on, just that the rattling that lasted for AGES meant something wasn't right (tensioner fault had caused chain to stretch slightly).

Welcome to the forum btw, like that hair, striking looking. :)

Timing chain fault shouldn't bring the light on on a N15 but will do on a N16 as that has a cam and crank sensor. Easy way to tell if the chain has stretched is uneven idle and the rev counter jumping up and down.

oo think mine might have that :( can the chain be shortened or does it just have to be replaced?

Rach.

dont think its that, it doesnt seem to want to go past 3 n half thousand revs in any gear and dont wanna go any faster that 80

Could it be that your exhaust is blocked? Maybe one of the baffles has come loose?

2 women in the same thread.........Now I think we'll leave it there before we get some girl on girl action :D
3 woman now that I've joined! Just thought I would ask the timing chain question as we have had to replace two in under 6 months :( Sorry thats two separate almeras one 2001 other 2002 both low mileage (30 odd and 40 odd thousand miles each)

Lack oil changes is the cause. change the oil every 9000 miles or before and use good quailty oil as well.

ezerbabe, Remember to get the fault codes :)
