Stani's SR20 Micra Build

Brilliant @CoV

Did you charge? Just trying to get an idea of what to pay when it comes to that. If not what's the timescale of doing the job :)
It was a couple of years ago now so I can't remember. Fabricating cars parts isn't really an option for me anymore I'm sorry to say. Too busy.

You're probably looking at an hour at least for machining them. You'll be between £30-£50 for both I would imagine. I would offer to get them done for you but I see you're in Scotland so probably not feasible sending them down and back up.

I had to profile a tool to get the correct shape. Lots of rads in that area if you want the bearing grease seals to work properly like original

Long time no speak! Not a great deal to update hence why I have left it till now

Three weeks ago as you seen I dismantled all the hubs. Two weeks ago I managed to go around a few places to get opinions etc

First place I tried said that the job was too big for him yet he called his company precision engineering
Second place the guy started blabbing on that it was too dangerous and that I'd die etc
Third place no hassle at all so I just gave them the job as I was running out of time (only have time on Fridays after work!)

Had to buy new wheel bearings to hand in with the hubs but received them back today :) Will borrow my mates press again to get them built back up and see what needs machined off the cv joints. Then I can finally order the driveshafts!

Also spotted this locally for cheap so couldn't let it pass

Got another few bits done like filling the engine mounts and some welding but forgot to take photos

What needs modded? Sits near to gearbox? All ive read is people complaining about radiator and custom downpipes (both of which dont worry me)

Unless you plan to run the turbo the same way that the RWD does, the compressor housing will foul on the block/belhousing but it may still hit breather pipe that comes from the block too?

Ill stick it on the engine when i get a chance see what clearance there is, either way im not fussed. Will sell the manifold if i feel its not worth the hassle eh :)

Nipped up to the car to see about the manifold and yeah its close but until i have a turbo its hard to say. Definitely looks like theres more clearance than i had on my 1.3

The breather pipe im not worrying about as that can be adjusted

Also heres a pic of my engine mounts i filled in, seem quite solid but will have a better idea once engine is remounted :)

Hey guys i remember someone saying good luck finding cv joints and i thought my luck was in but the OD of the inner spline is too small. Now ill be getting custom driveshafts made but really would prefer the beefier shaft! Anyone had any luck?

Is it worth all the hassle trying to find the correct cv from other makes of nissan and hope im lucky? Or do i just go for it and have the shafts made to the slightly smaller size at the inner spline

Whats peoples thoughts?

Cheers

Got it all sorted now guys, the only cv joints i could find were from shaftec and ive read they are no use so ive stuck with the cv joints i originally bought. Turns out they fit the front shafts from a pulsar gtir! So ive bought a set of 2nd hand pulsar shafts purely so i can cut them and mock up a set at the correct length/splines etc so less time is spent from the guys who charge £50 an hour lol

Ive been trying to avoid removing some metal from the cv joints where they fit into the bearing seal but cannot find any other way to do it so my cv's will be machined by friday night

I also had to chamfer some of the metal away on the cast micra hub where the larger cv joints were just touching.

Heres a pic of them built minus the bearing seals

Nearly there with this hub conversion! Just waiting on hub seals from nissan and its complete!!

Got my mate to machine the cv joints for me, here the bit that needed done

Micra cv

Almera cv

In action shot :p

So that called for my first friday night on the car in a few weeks :) hubs fitted, all driveshafts stripped down and trimmed to fit and tacked together

Last thing i need to do before i order shafts is to fit some wheel studs into the hubs so i can set the car on its wheels and make sure the driveshafts dont bottom out on the inner cv. Im already confident its correct as ive raised the hub up more than enough and theres still plenty clearance!
