Steven C GTi

yeah you need to remove the head and oil pump to replace the chain.

a chain kit usually comes with a HG as well as all the chain bits

In which case I'm eager to know if this was replaced with a genuine nissan chain and h/g (particularly the h/g) or *insert generic motorfactor brand*...

Also, was it skimmed?

No it wasnt skimmed , you only usually need too skim the head if the gasket had gone or a problem! As it was fine we didnt feel the need for a skim! Its almost 12 months since it got done and no problems

Looks good, was going to buy those torques of garnz at one point loved them so much!

If dont plan on keeping them what other kinda wheel you going to opt for?

Feel good to be back in N15 GTi eh? :sorcerer:

I'd be opting probably for some 16'' grids or fighters. Probably. Maybe even in white, with the door handles colour coded.

Anyway, just had car in the air on the ramp and made discoveries.

- The car's been comprehensively!!!! undersealed and as a result is in very very good condition. It's starting to come away at some points so this will be treated, but this is now less of an urgency. :D

- Car has braided brake lines already, so not required :D The other lines seem to be in pretty good nick, so nothing to worry about there.

- The MIJ Exhaust system (assuming that's what's still on it) which is receipted as a 2.25 s/s cat back has been reduced to a complete disgrace. Don't know if it's the quality of the workmanship, the materials or the length of time that's passed (4 years?) but the facts are that EVERY weld is leaking slightly, some worse than others (sprayed with fairy liquid) and the front of the middle box has completely come away around almost the entire circumference of the weld. The exhaust is not mandrel bent but has been crush bent. The top bend over the axle actually measures a circumference of 145mm...which is 1.8inches outside diameter. Must be about 1.6/1.7 internal. I'll be patching this one up later in the week and getting myself sorted out with a 2.5" mandrel bent system pretty sharpish I think.

good news on the underside

not surprised by the MIJ shite, mine was similar tbh - the bend up and over the axle was nothing like 2.5 mandrel, overpriced tat imo

mmm my previous 'mandrel' bent exhaust from MIJ was debatable, at least your know Phil at unique exhausts can fix you up :)

Great that your happy with your purchase, see how far the mod bug takes you :shifty:

MIJ. Get what you pay for then. Glad I never accepted that quote. Nearly three years I've had mine now, been through three winters and still in perfect nick. I did pay more for it though. Powerspeed FTW. Wee bit far from you though!

Good to hear you're back in a 'Mera Steven :) Looks like you've got a good 'un too. Looking forward to seeing where you go with this . . . . .

good to see you've got a mera Steven, we met briefly at JAE ... car looks like a decent example, loved my old AR2 :(

Steve

Clutch is quite spongey. Surprised its an act. No receipts for it but there is for everything else.

Knew it had a lightened fly as soon as I started it and revved.

yeah billy gave the papers and all boxes for everything inc an ACT receipt iirc.

Details on first page of what I'm looking at doing to it.

I hope to make use of it like a modded GTi should be but also having a rigerous service and maintenance schedule.

By the end of the weekend I'm looking to have the exhaust fixed, de-cat on, paint polished to see true condition and investigate pulling to left and heavy steering.

Not a bad thing to say about the ST as a car. Good turn of pace due to the grunt / torque, however not really any faster than my GTi's from a standing start. I'd imagine it'd muller it from a rolling start though. An absolute hoot to drive - handling improved a lot in the ten years from when the GTi was made. Very comfy and acres of space. Awesome brakes too.

Downsides about the ownership are they are expensive to insure + the fuel consumption is TRUELY staggering.

I only got rid because I was having no end of problems with ECU and electrical faults which Ford refused to acknowledge existed or fix. A true case of computer says no when plugged into diagnostic. The dealer was an absolute fan dang when I tried to get them to sort it and only after I'd written to the director of the company did the DP become involved and offered to buy the car back at full price.

I am truly loving mine, Screw the RS Steve lol a remap, intercooler and diff and you basically have the same performance for like £1500 :)

Im currently getting 35+mpg driving like a granny in it, which i swear is the most i've ever heard from an ST

Sounds like you had a bad-un...bloody ford dealers are always pricks i've found and the extened warranty is shite!

Fair doo's though, i've been looking at getting a GTi as a track weapon as well as the ST but not till the summer :)
