Texas Pete ('99 GTi)

how are you liking SR20 power dude? :D

lovin it dude, cams make it brutal in first, seconds probably the most uninspiring gear, 3rd and 4th would pull you through the centre of the earth given half a chance lol only thing im gonna struggle to get used to is that its bloody thirsty, and thats not me whinging about the difference of GA to SR but thats me whinging about lightly modded GA to cammed and mapped 180bhp SR lol

today i wanna fit the solid front engine mount and get that bloody stereo workin properly lol gonna try and cover the rear screens and parcel shelf as well...

cheers :)

Are you putting the GTi wheels on this one tommo? And is any of the old 1.4 kit going on this or is it up for sale?

front bumper and suspension is provisionally sold but the rest is going at some point, want to keep the wheels for now as the rears arnt too healthy on the gti

had a day doing bits and bobs today, tidied a few bits, set stereo up and took a couple of pix. gave up on the solid front mount as i need to get it on ramps...

changed oversprayed headlight rubbers for my clean ones off the si

gorgeous car bar the bonnet mmm.

by the way if you break the Si rather than sell it on ill take the header :P

get to know your local fuel stations too btw

shell drivers club vip me lol

starting to get used to it now and getting an idea as to where its going. jedi will probably disown me and hate me forever but the bonnet is being swapped to the Si one asap, i know i said i wouldnt but it came to me tonight over a coffee and a tab with our technical guru dave from jnc that it stands out too much for me, grabs too much attention and although its functional i cant really get on with it. now then, friday i had an 'incident' hit a bump under braking and i thought a brake pad had jumped as the pedal went solid and i had no brakes, turns out the abs had come in, did it on a speed bump earlier, and as my mate dave has always said, ABS doesnt like 17's. pulled the fuse tonight before i came home and i now have some confidence in braking again... gonna be a long road to get used to it and get it how i want it but it'll get there, watch this space ;)

great mate- so pleased its gone to someone thats goin to do something with it! I'l be the first to admit that i am a crap person to own such a nice GTI cos with my racing plus lack of money the car ends up getting no time and i dont make any of the meets. This is one of the best cars on the site and should be displayed at some of the big events which i was never able to do but sure you will.

Nice to hear some nice comments about it but also anoyed at others! To be expected i spose with different tastes. I get fed up with everyone chaffin on about that bloody bonnet- just cos its different ppl dont like it. I've got pics of it with the normal bonet on and it just looks bloody boring! Anyway to save your own ears i guess its best to change it lol. Cant see why you'de want to change the wheels to boring ones as someone else has said as well.

Anyway up to you mate- it yours now, i like what you've done so far- indicators look alot better and the grill as well. Quite agree the brakes were in urgent need of attention. It did have one brand new rear caliper on (think it was left side) which was bloody expensive. I used to find probs with the ABS on the bumps too.

What are your thoughts to that suspension? You gona leave it? The stiffness isnt the prob for me, its the rebound on it seems to be all to cock and i dont no why

Once you get used to the car you`ll realise the fuel economy isn`t that different Tommo. On longer journeys you`ll get more mpg. Enjoy.

right-o, if the bonnet stayed it would be through functionality only, ive never been a fan to be honest, i will say when your driving its pretty cool as you can see it and gives you a brief impression your driving something else lol other thing is that when you come to a stop after a drive you can see the heat coming out the vents so it obviously works... i suppose in one way its like when you chose that bonnet scott, that was your preference, just turns out a flat bonnet is my style. as for the wheels they are staying, really like them to be honest! corbs wants gti wheels on it. booo. stereo is staying now ive got it going well, engine mount is fridays job, got me mate comin down to help so might even swap bonnets if we get time... suspension is a dificult one, like you say you can live with it, its just got such a harsh rebound on it, i bet the spring rates are quite high being APEX stuff. itll stay though, too much hassle to swap, the suspension is great when your pushing it a bit, just a bit poo when taking it easy. And cheers again scott for listening to the 1000 questions when i brought it :D

cheers mate, must admit ive only last night fiddled with the trip meter so i can now clock my miles on how much i spend..... ill see you down the A51 then ian.........after my wallet has healed up

Is that a 60bhp loss from fly to wheel in the first printout? If so, that's ASTONISHING!

One of them must be wrong, 120whp is about standard but 180bhp is perfectly achievable with those mods.

If it was me I'd do another run on a dyno dynamics RR to put my mind to rest.

apologies for the hi-jack, but the guy i bought my p11 engine off e-mailed me a copy (which i deleted ) of a rr printout that showed the engine at 165bhp. that was just with filter and exhaust mods? does this seem high?

was the p11 engine more powerful?

@ tommo - defo keep wheels mate, look awesome. and grill is perfect too. as for bonnet, not sure.

also what's this ABS problem you speak of?

to be honest a rolling road print is more braggin rights than a true indication, just that 2 prints from seperate companies for 180bhp cant be bad in my eyes, wheels are staying cos they look ace, bonnets deffo going, i dont like leaving it parked out of sight as the bonnet just screams look at me, at least with a normal bonnet people will hopefully think its just got wheels rather than hmmmmmmm posh bonnet = many monies. not good with vue cinema in the back of the car...

ABS problem, im no expert but from what i gather the ABS overcompensates due to wheel size, less tire flex induces skidding so the abs kicks in harder, releasing more pressure from the system than normal so basically means you have all but no brakes...
