Texas Pete ('99 GTi)

ok so you were right with the bonet, ish, i was always gonna swap it but you got thisCRAAAAAZY idea you were the reason i wanted to swap the bonnet. "im going to swap the bonnet cos corblah is right" bollocks you uncoordinated ball of ghey, i like my 17s. what you upto tonight?!

dont cry little corbs.

Once you get used to the car you`ll realise the fuel economy isn`t that different Tommo. On longer journeys you`ll get more mpg. Enjoy.

just noticed 75 miles to 10 quid, 99.9 per litre of Vpower, added up thats 375 miles to a tank. score!

i think it all comes down to if you want the car for looks or performance. I wanted looks so went with the nice wheels, bonnet etc. I didnt want to drive a lightened shed around cos i was never going to do track days, 1/4 mile runs etc so there was no point. Depends what your doing with it i guess mate but if your using it as your every day too and from work car i no what i'de do.

Bit like a girl rele- you can go for looks and your everyday girl or you can go for your performance girl- a one night stand munter lol

^ huh........................... whats modding cars got to do with birds lol

tommo - How did you measure that 75 miles from ten litres?, thats a good 10 more on mine argh. That’s like 37+mpg wow

never mind fuel economy i may just have to eat my shoes david, im liking the black gti wheels on yours. damn you all. didnt think it would look right. god dammit...

Im not on about it feeling like a race car or being faster (even though it will be), its just with 15"s on and a decent amount of rubber on will make the car much nicer to drive, and be better handling as the tyres will have some flex to help aborsb the bumps

More comfortable, quieter and nicer to drive - yes.
Better handling on the bends - no.

With more flex in the tyre, unless you get tyres with properly re-inforced sidewalls (race tyres) then they'll be hopeless in the bends when compared to big wheels + low profile tyres.

On a billiard table smooth track maybe, but on the roads I beg to differ. I had 17s on mine when I got it and it was not predictable in corners due to tramlining and bump steer.

I switched back to std 15s and I can now push it harder through any given corner and the ride quality is far superior.

Trug

i hope your right, standard suspension or just run of the mill lowered springs then 17s would be fine, on apex energy springs and kyb gas shocks there a nightmare. also the engine mounts are shagged, keeps lunging and clunking while trying to do 20 in a 40 on a bumpy road behind some stupid old fucking biddy. also had chavs hassling me just at halfords about the bonnet 'dats wel fat innit' FUCK OFF. i only went in to replace the number plates which a friendly police woman told me were illegal and needed changin asap. luckily it was work mates wife who was off duty. all in all im a bit RAAAA and will be happy with it on friday when i get the stuff done i want on it......

david, i put 20 quid in and guessed at 10 quid, pound a litre, 10 litres, 75 miles. clocked it tonight and did about 140 on the 20 quid, thats a 350 tank in a perfect world....

you must have add'd £20 to a few quid in the tank me thinks haha

hhhmmmm personal modding imo works when you have the car with no mind to sell it (do as you pls) however before, after and during the sale. keep it oem tyte for sure - wah la

with the greatest of respect to jedi i brought it for the power and handling. anything else was bonus! every way out of rugeley has shit roads so after a week of ownership im ready for some compromise... your probably right on the fuel as well but sam did clock 400+ miles to a tank remember...
