Turbo this turbo that.

Nahh it'll overboost if there's no back pressure..
I've heard it rips the seals straight out the turbo if you run it with the boost pipes disconnected.
So I'll have to run it at the lowest boost setting and make sure I take it easy haha :)

Sorry guys.. I mean turbo'd GTI as opposed to engine swapped GTI.. ( GTIR/VVL etc etc.. )
..I cudda made that a bit clearer..

I thought the other turbo assisted lumps were GTIR swaps..

You forgot mine as well...LOL!

I still have my car as the buyer had some serious health issues.

I had it out last week and all is well now that I have the boost controler.

I changed the wastegate spring to give 6 psi and with the boost controller up it to 18 psi in 3rd, 4th and 5th gears. I rigged the horn button on the steering wheel to acivate the boost controller solenoid.

Full traction in all gears apart from 1st (as long as it is dry).

As for converting a stock SR20DE (10:1), you'll be good to 10 psi on a GT28RS on 98 octane.

Anymore than that, and you are playing with fire.

If you buy a GTiR engine, you are buying an engine with a lot of potential, but it may also have had a lot of abuse and miles.

For me, convert the stock engine!

Oh and if you want to run your engine with a turbo and have no boost, then jam the wastegate open somehow!

Cheers

Dave

P.S. Anyone want to buy an Almera...LOL!

P.S. Oh yeah, I found a video on Youtube that was taken back in June at Crail, when I was running without the boost controller and at 15 psi...traction was a bitch in 1st and 2nd as you will hear....LOL!

13.57 @ 117.5 mph...oh and a terrible 2.4 60ft time.
