Autech Pulsar GTi

mint bro, seriously liking where this is going.
whats your ideas for a header, spec wise and from where?
i KNOW you already have a clear idea............ do tell

im looking towards a stock 86mm bore with different pistons, a target CR of 14:1, a custom header and this intake manifold.

The custom header will basically be my Mazworx one, but modified with shorter primaries (for better top end) and possibly a smaller choke instead of the current 2.5".

Dale, do you think 14:1 C.R is safe? After what happened to Craigs build?

I think so, i think Craig has been unfortunate to be honest. More of a mapping issue with detonation on the low cam.

As i said though my dynamic compression is quite low which is why i get relatively low cylinder compression results. Craigs 12.5:1 build is getting around 250+psi(?), i doubt 14:1 on mine will go much more than that.

Obviously, If i do go this high, i will run as tight of quench as i can and ensure everything inside the chambers is smooth to remove potential hot spots.

I went boost once, it was shit. lol

I still miss it, hence my craving for more power!

Nah, once you go boost, you never go back, unless it's got a BTCC engine and 6 speed sequential

I went boost and come back!

I think Wezz put it perfectly the other day. Turbo's are fast, but there is nothing like the throttle response you get NA.

I said boost, not GA wannabe SR puff!

I fully agree and watch the old BTCC footage with a boner all the time, but that all changes when I drive my car and think, 'Fuck NA revs, boost wins!'

But let's not go down that road again!

ohhh i think i get it. Without big cams that bleed off pressure the compression would stay mega high on baby cams.

you are quite correct dale, my issues came from mapping potentially and my wise idea of using xylene to boost octane then not using it sometimes :/

my engine would be fine on 12.5:1 had i avoided xylene.

however, my last comp test showed my healthy cylinders giving 290psi - this is pretty consistent with most 12.5 ve's in the US

14:1 will be insane and imo even though you're right about the low lobes being the problem with det, i still think it might be a bit high. Hopefully not man sounds awesome.

As for all this project vvl killer bollox, my new bottom end will be built soon and without any silly xylene to fuck things up, and finally a ve on here will be built properly and ruin you de phags :P

We're still waiting for you to do that from last time!

which i would have, had i not been stupid enough not to run the car loads without xylene

yeh shoot the build down blah blah, it was stupidity on my part, its done 6k and still goin strong just a bit smokey  so can't be that badly put together

cant wait to see it all done pal.
also anyone who builds an engine like craig has done i take my hat off to as i wouldnt know where to start myself and for your first build craig you cant grumble the power you got come on look at my n16 french/nissan thing who have been making engines for years they still cant fucking build an engine and make it reliable.

good luck to both of you on your new builds

Cheers, If this happens its going to be over winter, so its ages away!

Short term stuff for the summer is just to get some R888's (or equivalent) and enjoy it.

Im hoping we'll have one or two club track days arranged this year.

how confident are you of 14:1 being ok? is that on 99ron?

you know way more thn me but still seems high....be sooo soo savage though

I`d say the human tuning is far more important than the fuel octane.

Good luck with the progression of your build Dale.
