Chunkys Pulsar GTi

I think the point of the AOC is to say when you need advice and get the best answers going. I'm a mechanic but someone who has time to read lots of threads and discussions throughout the world on various other forums will know a lot more about sr20 tuning than myself. That's why i always used to phone people up off here and pester them. Hope it goes better this time around Chunk but surely you can get it done quicker than summer?

Pull your finger out Chunky. You've got your own unit! Sorry to hear about this mate. Does that mean you'll have to source a piston set? What are you doing with the ones you've got?

and it was the over heated block from stufa?

Nope, that was replaced with an old block i had and all the work needed to fit the pistons in done by cambridge rebores (which isn't in cambridge :/ ) they also skimmed and cleaned the head/block etc

I should have asked a long time ago but for some reason i didn't (most likely ego :( )

As it stands i MAY be loosing my job as the company are moving production to Rotherham ( we bought out KP snacks early this year) and they've basically taken over :( so pretty shitty but hey there's always work about in Engineering so i SHOULD (fingers Crossed) be ok. so at the moment i'm saving as much as possible whilst also getting things done there is no reason it shouldn't be done by then but I'm giving myself a long time-frame :)

Yeah always phoning me, inconsiderate cunt.

Dont worry Chunk, itll be better next time. Learn from mistakes and all that jazz :) but you missed the bit about Martin being a bellend.

Exactly that :) it's all a learning curve

Depending on the condition of the pistons ( should be ok) i may just stick a set of standards in. i won't be able to afford a new set of wossners.

I take it there was no torque plate used on the rebore? Just trying to work out what went wrong so I don't do it when I do mine.

Ive still got 3 86.5mm wossners spare too lol from when my injector from kristian fucked up on piston 1 and popped a hole in it lol.

They where only in for 2 weeks now in my cupboard lol,

I honestly don't know they're a reputable company i've used quite a few times so i guess they'll use the correct procedures

Very few places in the US, let alone the UK have a torque plate. I was reading up on it the other day and the bores can distort as much as 0.3mm once the gearbox casing and head are torqued down. That, and cost of doing it, has kept me at standard bore.

What happened with Martin?

At the time of getting things sorted with him, he was just being an arsehole. refused point blank to map it with the SAFC in place, and that he won't map it on the 370cc injectors as they're only good to 260/70hp and that the fuel pressure MUST be at 3bar he was also saying that the standard MAF wouldn't cope and i'd need a skyline one or Z32 (Which is understandable but it has been done to usable power figures with the standard DE MAF before) and that i must have DET cams.

He offered it all at a total charge of 1050+VAT with mapping.(not including maf)

Needless to say i felt like he was trying to rip me off and i decided then to go for Greddy Emanage as it seems to have done very well with others here :)

Jesus wept, what's up with these tuners. I would've loved to had that conversation with him. Anyone worth their salt knows that you can get close to 300hp on 370's and a good fuel pump.

I did say that it has been done and i have seen the builds, but he continued on to say "fucking forum bollocks" and so on. by that time i had switched off and was not prepared to get it done with him. if i can find a Nistune setup going for sale in a gti ecu i will look into getting the software etc and getting it done elswhere.

Martin had been pissing off a lot of people at the moment. There was a big bust up with a couple of members on Skyline owners that wanted to use SAFC. He doesn't like to use them as they are old technology, which is fair, but the way he went about telling them was awful. He's a sweary stubborn bastard generally.
He just says point blank that 'it won't work' when what he means is 'there may be better options'.
He is a great tuner though and still has to turn work down because he is just so busy.
