Grivs Silver GTi

i think you need to proper decide on how much you wanna spend/how far you wanna go

if you just want that good step up from a bolt on GTi, and aren't bothered about being restricted to 16ve cams etc, then i would say light pulleys are a waste of money tbh, its debateable how much they really do.

same with flywheel, some people say they felt massive gains, some say hardly noticed it.

i'd say get basics sorted, engine in, good exhaust and filter, then maybe flywheel. wouldnt bother with pulleys and little things though if you're watchin the money and not overly fussed

well all the help is well received buddy. If theres not a massive gain then I won't bother. I just mentioned lightened flywheel to basically loose some more weight really, lol.

So basically your saying if i'm just putting the engine in i may as well just do

clutch (because i might as well and a standard one isn't expensive)
new belts (same as above)
cat back ( to complete my system)
hks shroom (for obvious reasons)
mapping
trackday time

Done, lol.

dunno mate, flywheel could be good but if you're not wanting to go all out cos of cash i wouldn't be doin pulleys n shit, or stage 3clutch

i'm not sure on flywheel, i know mine revs fuckin quickly, but then it's got pulleys and 12.5:1 which kinda help it rev too!! so i'm not sure how much its to do with flywheel

sure a few on here reckon it made a good difference though

and you called earlier? i tried callin back? when we painting?! :gunsmilie:

Get the best clutch you can, nothing worse than a pussy soft pedal. Imagine a trip to the ring being ruined by a cheap ass clutch! haha

Other performance parts are totally as you wish, if you have the money buy the lot.

i still say if you're gonna spend anything on it, don't make it flywheel, pulleys n shit

make it on some ve pistons and build a nice fresh bottom end. Nothin mad and forged, rods etc, just some ve pistons which are cheap enough.

that way its a nice fresh bottom end with no chance of homemade valve reliefs. Steve never mapped it remember but still gave it some abuse....

added bonus if you did want more powahz you can sell the 16ve cams and put n1s in. more gain from them than any flywheel or pulleys

Yeah I know what you mean, lol. However I have been twice now on quit well used clutches and had no problems.

TBH it's not really about the money. I could afford to do bottom end etc but i really don't have the space or time etc to fully go for it. Thats why i just want to get this, wack it in and get it mapped. Then just go from there.

I may as well get a clutch as i said before because piece of mind having a new clutch is a good thing. With the pulleys etc if there is sufficient gains then i'm not really that bothered. I just want the thing to run well, lol.

I just want the thing to run well, lol.

This is the point^^

its not about goin fully for it, and if we did it over at mine it wouldn't take up space or time.

i'm not on about a massive build, just a refresh. Like i said when you mentioned this engine, i'd only get it if you plan on doin the bottom end at some point. Steve ran this unmapped and from stories ive heard caned the tits off it, cold too. Not tryna leave a sour taste mate just sayin for the price of some pulleys and a light flywheel you'd have a set of ve pistons and a honing.

If you wanted do it at mine, or if you trust me to build it all for ya i will, and it'll be done better than my engine was and mine's seen 3k miles, some serious abuse, 20 odd dyno passes, so it ain't too fragile.

offers there mate, just sayin how i see. You get a spare block to me and order some pistons n rings, and bearings. it ain't gonna take a lot to build, few days after work.

/vvl/

bottom_end_build.indecisive

Come on then boys. Let's put a cap on it. You have £400 to build a bottom end. What would you get/buy/build or steal?

Full lists please. Can't he hurt to see what people would get. Maybe a template could be set up. i.e

pistons
headgasket
etc

Anyway you have a SR20de block and £400. Go.........

Where have I listened to Sam. Also where have I said I am 100% doing it. You have a thread 15 pages long with fuck all outcome. Craig go sssssh now.

wow someone's on the blob. i'm actually a little confused and speechless after that.

curse of the silver almer: superdan syndrome - to take ones self way too fucking seriously

When you two have stopped flirting.:001_icon16:

Pistons: 20V from G-Spec
Rings: standard 20V from G-Spec
HG: Cometic from G-Spec
Bearings: Standard from G-Spec
Total: $517.53 or £334.55

That's just a guess at parts to be honest but hopefully a few good links.

Good list, but i'd probably go with the 16 or N1 pistons. More valve relief on those for good times.

Bye_Bye_JWT's.jap

I took out the JWT's tonight. It was very daunting because I hadn't really done anything like it before (without supervision) but i followed the guide and it all went well. So I can start getting the plans in motion
for the VE going in. I'm looking forward to it immensely. I'm still undecided if I will be building a bottom end or not and to be honest I probably won't because I have other things to finance etc.

But at least i will be getting some cam switching action, lol.

Well as I was waiting at my Nans for here to get back from Bingo so I took the opportunity to take a few snaps. Nothing special. Just general here is what it looks like at the mo. Plus my new gear stick mod ;)

Just took a few interior bits out in preparation for the dash coming out to get that last bit of deadening, heater ducts and air con stuff. Also still undecided about the front splitter. Leave it on take it off and stick on a VZR trim?
