My Black GTi

Was picking up my bro this morning and the car drove fine considering the shit weather just now...but when I got to the lock up and turned the car my brakes just stopped working!! Luckly where I picked my bro up my mates garage is there so he's checking over it today to see what happenend!!
1st time I've had brake troubles but this weather aint helping!!
There was no feeling in the pedal just goes straight to the floor...break light was on but not the ABS!!

Strange??!!

Update on brakes...my mechanic friend had a look last nite and found that the actual break hose has snapped off from the caliper!! Got my goodridge break hoses just over a year ago but they have a lifetime warranty on them!! Called them today and I've to send the hose back for them to check over and hoepfullly send me a new one!! Left with no car though for the moment, hopefullt getting something temporary fitted cos wanting to move it to a friends lock up who going to work on it while I'm away on my hols!!

Getting my new shocks fitted, service, new engine mount bushes and new thermostat! But first the brakes need sorted!!

Nightmare!!!

Called Goodridge yesterday about my brakes....said they looked in a pretty bad way! Said it looks like something has been rubbing on the braid and would eventually have broken through so would have lots my brakes at some point if I hadnt noticed it!!

Getting a report by email with pics from them and I've to send them pics of the caliper!! I told them my mechanic had checked and said there was nothing rubbing and he also fitted these too! Not sure who to blame....mechanic....goodridge or just unlucky!! Dont care really now just want it back on the road!!

My mate has been fitting my new shocks, gators, strut tops, engine mount bushes, thermostat, coolant, power steering fluid and full service the last couple of days so going to see it tonight and I'll try and get some pics up!! Also fitted H4 Phillips Extreme headlight bulbs...much better than standard and piece of piss to fit!!

Also noticed my clutch has felt really tight the last couple of months, some people have said the same when they've drove it....may be the cable or a seized release bearing. If its the bearing then going to just leave it and get it done when I get a flywheel/clutch as you'll all know this a gearbox out job!!

I dont think its rubbing, i mean theres nothing in the way around that area, they just start to come away through flexing around that joint. Imo its a design flaw -goodride are looking for a scape goat :rasp:

Cheers Sam some interesting reading, I took some pics last nite at my mates lock up to send to goodridge. The other lines are fine! SRi-Alan put this quote on that post and sounds quite like this has happenend to mine "

I wonder if the hose got pulled all the way through at some point, and then coiled up as the wheel turned in and the hose now being too long on the wrong side of the strut, then touched the caliper. "

I am awaiting goodridge sending me the pics they have taken cause I aint seen the state of the line myself!! Was away on hol and left it all to my bro!!

This has been a nightmare hope it gets sorted!! Might use this info you've given me and send some pics on to them to prove that I'm not the only one its happened too!!

Thanks again!

Problem has been solved for the moment anyway...fingers crossed it doesnt happen again!! Got home yesterday and what was waiting for me when I got in.....a new brake hose, free of charge!! They must have accepted liability after all or they just wanted me off there back!!

Yeah just seen them mate, if goodridge had been wanks and not sent me the new hose then I may have considered buying these!! Got a new hose so hopefully no more problems!!!

I know it may happen again but I'll take that chance for now as I've just spent a load of cash on my hols and my car is nearly done as you'll see from pics below! Cant wait to drive it cos my shocks were in some state!!

Finally got pics to put up!! My car has been off road for a while but been getting work done while its been in my mates lock up!!

I have been getting a loud banging noise from the rear driver side shocky when going over bumps, my mate showed me the old one last nite and could move the whole thing up and down with my hand so no wonder it sounded fucked!! New KYB's will make a hell of a difference! :D

Think the new prothane mounts are getting done now and a few other bits and bobs!! By the looks of my rear discs I think thats the next thing to get....didnt think they were that bad!!

Glad to see Goodridge came through in the end. Good Progress man, can't wait to see it again. YOu coming to the Meet in Scotland??

coming along nicely, my front shocks looked like the one you taken off the rear lol.

discs are cheap enough from your local motor factors i think both my rears cost £30 ish, bargain!!

Cheers guys, been all good since most things were replaced! Shocks have made a hell of a difference considering the rears were fucked!! Just an annoying banging noise from the exhaust now so after looking on a few posts using the search engine I have got some rubber to tie round the axle cos everytime I accelerate it starts vibrating!! If you look at the 3rd last pic you'll see a new clamp has been fitted to the exhaust so now its tightened up the noise is pretty loud!!
