My Daily Hooptieeee

Persuaded myself I needed coilovers for this car and finally bit the bullet. Eddie (on the AOC) come to my help saying that he had a set of BC Racing coilovers for sale which were in pretty good condition, albeit one corner was very slightly worn a bit but hopefully wouldn't really affect my "daily" driving.

Anyway, he's local to me so a 30min drive and I arrived and we cracked on with doing the rear's first at about 9am.

By about 11am both rears were done, we lowered it off the axle stands and went for a quick drive. Car felt good even on the coilovers softest settings, much better.

Got back and go on with the fronts. These went smoothly as well and I zinc primer'd as I went on the inner strut's on both the rear and fronts. Couple hours later and they were also done, all bolts greased up and torqued.

Drove home happy as larry, chuffed with how the car handles and looks now. I stiffened up the shocks a little and it feels so planted now, even if I'm not going round corners, just on the motorway it feels much more confident.

Think I'm going to tweak the ride-height a bit. After a couple of days of getting used to it and driving my local area I will get a feel for how much clearance I still have left. I think I could safely do about 20-25mm more on the back, and maybe 10-15mm front. But that'll come later :)

Anyway, more pics. Got some LED 501 bulbs though to replace the OEM orange look of normal bulbs. Don't hate the chavness, they are white but pics look a little blue.

Was just about to head home and noticed a train coming. Jumped out the car verrrry quickly and snapped this. Happy with this photo so I've done a "cinematic" effect on it.

So, weekend updates! :)
Bought myself a couple of red GTi badges and one arrived. Fitted it to the grille in roughly the same place as the Ph1 car's have them. I know it * shouldn't* have one (being a Ph3 car), but it does look better I think.

Today I went round a mates house to help him with his drift car. Got a bit bored so thought I'd have a go at cleaning up my plenum. I didn't get any before photos, but after about 30 mins of scrubbing, I got to this which I'm happy with.

And finally, evidence of lowness is showing on my driveway. I think I could go another inch lower all round, but I'd have to park elsewhere if I did that. It doesn't really touch anywhere other than my driveway lol! Time to move!!

Tiny update today but a package arrived from the USA from G-Spec. A new sump & genuine Nissan thermostat. Current sump is beginning to leak a tiny bit due to rust which sucks, but so I've read this is pretty common with a FWD car. Might look into making some kind of plastic/alu thin guard to cover it and help protect it.

Another small update, bought a couple of GTI badges and (long story short) got 1 extra which just to happen to be attached to a Ph1 black grille. For a laugh I thought I'd see what it would look like fitted.

Not really that much different tbh, but I quite like it. Looks a little more grown up and fits a bit better with the lines I think?
I'll leave it a few days and see how it grows on me, but a 30sec job to change back again :)

Some more updates and pic whoring. Yesterday I spent a couple hours cleaning the car and gave it a bit of a polish too. Found out how difficult it is to clean a black car and to actually keep it clean as well, so I kinda gave up after a bit since it was becoming OCD-spec!

Today at work came some more parcels through the post for me, service items :) 10w40 Titan Semi-Syth, NGK's, fuel & oil filter. I thought I may as well get all that done at the same time as changing the sump over.

And this will be it for a couple weeks now since I am off away on holiday to New York as of later this week!
The car will be treated when I get back to all these goodies being fitted :)

Had a bit of a rusty sump so ordered one up from America. Thought its an obvious time to do an oil change & filter change at the same time, durrh.

Crappy old sump,

great work, though all that copper grease on the threads of the coilovers is just going to attract all kinds of shite, put a light smear on and wrap the threads with electrical tape :)

Yea? fair point. I read about a while ago putting cling film around the threads, but as same with wrapping with tape is that it'll trap in water/crap.

once the threads are greased and the tape wrapped round its fine.

Mine still look brand new under the tape 2 years on

Weird your sump seems different then mine, the round bump/sump plug are on the other side on mine! Unless im going crazy

Your old sump.. erm can I have it please? I have you BC racing coilovers original box you need to collect too!

Your going to love them mate...just get a medium tint on those windows and you'll be loving the look!

....Tablet....

Thanks guys, yeah real pleased with them. Just fitted them, all went smoothly only took about 45 mins in total.
