My GA18DE+T

'mods up your sleeve' - black intercooler? I'll figure it out if you dont pop your bonnet the whole time :D

nah man. mods up my sleeve referred to NA mods just now. 3 things ive never heard of being done to a GA but should prove particularly good in hp and torque gains. put it this way, the safc is going on next weekend for a reason ;)

all will become apparent next weekend i hope.

and not a black cooler ;)

I was thinking of taking a huge pic of my tatty engine bay, then doing the SR20 swap, and putting the picture in there.
GA16 title fo sho.

Once you've got front splitter sorted, and the tubby conversion, this car will be damn near perfect IMO.

Ross, just slap a QG18 in there! I know of one that will be coming available in 5 weeks or so ;)

But on a serious note, im gutted for you dude :( you something else up your sleeve?

Once you've got front splitter sorted, and the tubby conversion, this car will be damn near perfect IMO.

aw corbs that lovely. but wrong.

sideskirt broke free last week and took half the car with it...
potentially terminal rust on the FRONT strut tower
swirly paintwork
rust on the rear arches,
rust back on both sills (this time its getting brush painted and skirts slapped over)

i'd be lying if i said i didnt consider giving up in the past few weeks but i'm too far in now.

i'll fix all the above to the best of my ability and keep it reasonably tidy

POWER NOT PAINT!!!

as for front splitter im gonna repair the damage to my P1 bumper and go back to that with a rubber splitter :)

Anything can be fixed. Retro rides proves this. Either way, I dont think something needs to be mint to be perfect.

well its about time i did this.

Following a discussion with Bob Legere (rally GA legend) and a few other members on the GAforum this project has officially ended.

it seems that at first impression there is indeed 9mm of material between the cylinders which would allow for the required 4mm extra bore needed to run QG18 pistons.

i have always maintained that there is very little difference between the GA and the QG blocks. I WAS WRONG.

turns out that even though there is 9mm material between cylinders at the top of the bore, as you go further down the water jacket there is significantly less material. enough to make a 4mm bore out dangerous.

i dunno what RN_Sport has done. whether its sheer luck it hasnt gone pop yet or if he has even dont it at all but this cant be done.

sorry guys. nobody is more let down by this ending than me.

Sorry to hear about this Ross. I hate to say it, but I did think you'd come across a stumbling block somewhere. Here's hoping your new plans will come to fruition & we'll have another unique build in the club

why not go for a 2mm overbore? Maybe some ouersize honda pistons to keep costs down?

our brothers across the water are adamant that a 1mm overbore is the most you can do, which gives you a pissy 1.7 (no offence cov :P) so not worth the hassle and cost

i'll also as far as i know be the first person to fit a SAFC to a UK GA almera

I fitted an SAFC Neo to my Almera Si a few years ago in my early turbo days. (its on here somewhere)
Which was later sold on to Kristian for his Almera turbo...

That how i confirmed the stock 6750rpm rev limit on my 1400. Lovely gadget in that sense, the displays are cool.

Im sure the SAFC will do you just fine as long as you dont push things too far.
At least you wont be stuck with a useless K11 ECU like me:D Ive spent a fortune on mapping etc only to find the damn things got a mind of its own:(
