my trop green gti

deffo sounds odd. you sure the timing marks are correct on the chain and the sprockets?

this is what makes me think the chain has been replaced as i cant find any timing marks on it and having that newer style tensioner.
i think im gonna wait for either shag or dale to come and pop over and give me a hand as all seems to hard for me to understand.

simcard thanks for the pm pal if i get stuck i will give you a call

the timing chain links will be a very slightly different colour. Is there a yellow link somewhere in the chain?

does this look right to you guys.
i havent got the tensioner in yet or the cam bolts as i want to make sure its right.

also if this is right im guessing now the timing is 0,0

well that grey link looks like one of the timing ones, i'll get you the pages from the FSM that describe it.

Adjustable cam gears FTL, you might be worth getting it timed up on standard sprockets then swapping in the adjustable.

well heads off again as i have a water leak from the inlet looks like when i had it cleaned they have dropped it or something so having to put the old one on now grrrr

You sure its not the metal pipe that goes from the left hand side and into the inlet with one 10mm bolt?

I had a water leak on mine after swapping the head and it was the rubber o-ring on that pipe. An injector seal does the job.

Forget the colours on the chain. You only use them when you set a new chain from scratch. It doesn`t matter where the chain sits as long as all the sprockets are in the right place.

-cam notches at 10oclock / 12 oclock
-no1 cylinder TDC / crank dowel at 12 oclock
-20 links between the timing marks on cam sprockets

Agreed Rowdy buts it a hell of a lot easier to do it with the links, don't you think? Saves possibly mis-counting the links, skipping a tooth etc.

head is refitted and water leaks sealed

so i have finally found the timing marks didnt use them tho, just made sure i had the dowels at 10/12

i have abit of slack on the chain at the front tho,im guessing cause of the 1mm head skim ??? so will i have to retard or advance the exhaust cam to compensate this
cheer rich

woop woop it lives. the problem ended up being the fuel pump it was still priming and getting fuel to the rail but not enough, so went for a quick drive around the block and everything seems fine except for the ticky injectors which i wanna sort as their really annoying.

want to say a big thankyou to everyone that has helped and gave their 2p of what it could have been. massive thankyou goes to dale for coming over and helping me i owe you a few beers.

so gonna get it thou its mot now and get it taxed. maybe i will do more than 987 mile thats all i have done since owning it for nearly 2 years now

Glad it sorted for you! Can't believe thats all the mileage you have done in it.

How you planning on sorting your injectors? and have you got a video or clip of it rich?
