N16 SR20DE

Another little update...

Bought some service bits, including new outer CV boots...

Loom on the left of the engine has be relocated, but keeping the water temperature sensors obviously...

Cleaner looking without the loom on the left...

Nice and clean...
DSC_0013_800x536.jpg

So today ive gathered up the last service bits, removed the clutch arm and cable bracket from the gearbox, gave the 'box a final clean and degrease, painted the 'box, then had a quick look at the N16 wiring...

The wiring was almost as Phil has listed, the speedo sensor wiring doesn't run through with the ECU loom, instead it goes around the engine bay and in to the cabin on the driverside and there was a couple of different colour wires... bloody Nissan! I didn't take the dashboard off today but I'm tempted to now just to make sure the rest of the wires are actually going where I think they are!

But anyways my findings on the wiring side...

UNDERLINED means they are not needed and can be removed from the Loom.

ITALICS
means I didn't need them so they were either removed or left in place. I didn't look any further into the routes/feeds of these as I had no need.

The Alternator will run off the N16 loom. The plugs are the same and the pins are in the same order.

Now I have also removed the NATS wiring loom from the N15, I have it all written down and I see no reason what so ever for it not to work when wired in to my N16. It is actually a very simple setup, a battery live, an IGN live and earth, the transponder ring an LED and 2 central locking feeds. There are only 2 wires that go to the ECU. I will not be posting the actual wire colour codes/routes publicly. If you need this info then please PM me :)

The consult port is a simple install too, simply 5 wires to connect up to the ECU. Although if you trace the wiring from the plug itself, it takes you on a bit of a goose chase, with a splitter and a few pairs of wires going to the ABS system and the Airbag/SRS system!

Now for the N16. I haven't traced all of these yet so they still need to be confirmed, ill do that at the weekend.

As you can see I've not filled in the Description for the N16, purely due to me wanting to trace the wiring.

Thats all for today folks.

I reckon if I'd pulled my finger out (and had all the parts) I could've got in and running this weekend. Which would've meant exactly a week to SR swap it  But I decided against that idea as I'd rather take a little more time over it so I don't miss anything :)

Good idea take your time sort it once then enjoy for many a mile.

Glad you being patient there Liam.. it will pay of in the end!

Doing any fancy shit inside the engine bay whilst engine out? Seam welding/pink engine bay ;)

Omair. Directly to the left of the oil filter. There's 2 on the SR20, one for the temp gauge and one for the ECU.

N16 wiring table updated.

I've got a question about the N15 wiring tho, small interior connector, Pin 5 - Black/Red. This comes off the ignition barrel and then T's off, one to the fuse box and one to the dizzy (2 pin plug on the top). So I'm guessing this is the +VE feed for the dizzy.

Could someone with a spare few minutes possibly trace this wire and find out why it goes to the fuse box?

Although i'm thinking why does it need to go the ignition barrel? That only puts a +VE feed to it when in the 'start' position whilst cranking, sure it just needs an IGN feed from the N16 fuse box?

Reet, I've been through my wiring note this evening and paired up what I think is needed to get it running. I have missed the ECU Relay out as the SR20 ECU Relay is part of the ECU loom, so i'll just wire in the needed feed/switch/earth on the day. Can anyone see anything that I've missed and will need to find/trace? Its no big problem if I have to trace a couple of wires on the day, I'm just glad to get the bulk of this done beforehand!

There's also the Consult Port 7.5a IGN +VE (Green wire) and Earth (Black wire) to wire in then the NATS.

Clutch arrived today, so I'll get that fitted up tomorrow. Im also going to make a little engine trolley so I can wheel the engine outside to clean it as I'm too weedy to carry it on my own

excellent progress and im sure those notes will benefit many people in the future.

keep up the good work dude!!

Thanks guys :)

All that's left to do is clean/paint the engine block, then once the PAS pump and drive shafts turn up its a case of bolting on the pump and changing CV's/Boot's and we're good to go! So hopefully next weekend will see it in and running.

That's some impressive work there Liam, I always have a lot of respect for people with wiring skills, takes ages tracing wires and finding what they all do.
