N16 SR20DE

:gay: ^

I'd rather a slightly dodgy painted engine than a mucky/oily engine!

I did mine with VHT basecoat, its siver and looks oem

Yeah my last one was all painted and looked soooo much tidier! Will do a colour coded rocker cover at some point too. But lets not get ahead of ourselves here. I need to get it in and running first HA!

Don't I know it. If I don't get it running before the 8th December I wont be going to the Blackpool meet :( for which i've already got rooms booked! I know its 4 weeks away but I dont really get alot of time during the week due to working alternating shifts, earlies aren't too bad as when I finish work I can go and do 5-6hours on the car, but my unit is 6miles away and no way of getting home without the car (besides walking!). So I can't start the physical mounting/loom soldering side of things until im 100% on the prep!

I fucking hope so! The wiring side of things just seems too easy which is baaad news. Im not bothered about the mounting side of things as thats been covered before, both with my 1st SR swap (excluding the bodged engine side mount) and with Phils swap which has given a solution to the engine side mount.

After tomorrow ill post up a list of what I've got paired up to be connected as I'm bound to have missed something vital!

you'll make it bud, and tbh i built the wiring up to be such a big task in my head that i never wanted to start doing it (that's why it sat so long) but when i actually sat down and did it it was much easier than i thought, (and that was without an esm to work from for the ve loom so i had to strip the loom back and trace everything) so don't worry that your finding it easy mate :)

But with the starter signal, ive got 3 wires from the N15... a black/yellow that comes from a 7.5amp fuse on the interior fusebox to pin11 on the interior-engine loom connector, a black/white that is on the smaller of the 3 plugs on the left of the engine (cant remember where it goes to) and a black/red that comes from the ignition barrel and goes on to the top of the starter motor.

I was talking shite. Don't know where the black/red wire came from? It doesn't exist, simply a feed from the ignition barrel to the starter motor and then theres a small wire that comes off the fuse board and down to the interior loom plug, which feeds back to the ECU :)

Today I've removed the alternator wiring from the SR20, as the N16 engine bay loom will run it. Also re-routed the 3 plugs on the left of the engine over to the ECU/interior wiring loom. The engine looks alot tidier without that loom running round the side! Got me wanting a wire tuck now :| Cleaned down the gearbox and attempted to remove the clutch arm (need to buy a punch to knock the roll pins out!).

Tomorrow will be removing the N16 dash as I forgot the guy next door was taking down his wind turbine today so couldn't get in the garage. But hopefully as I've got Phils N16 list and having gone through the FSM the tracing on this side should be quite straight forward :)

Stay tuned for some more pointless updates...

nice one bud, that's what I did with the three connectors that plug in beside the relay box too, looks much neater without that clump of wires coming round to the alternator. plus you need them by the ecu anyway :)

I've not got round to the dash yet as everything on the n16 dash still works perfectly, (even shows in MPH which surprised me) plus the fact that the clear plastic facia on the vz-r dash is cracked :/

and they ain't pointless bud, your one of a few who have done this :)

I meant remove the actual dashboard! Not the clocks  I've already been thru the FSM and got all the wire colours for the speedo stuff, just need to trace the load wires, starter signal, ecu relay, reverse light, rad fan relay and probably a few others that I can't think of off the top of my head. I wont be using aircon and the SR20 doesn't have it so I don't need to worry about them :)

ahh sorry bud lol, afaicr they all terminate at the two plugs at the ecu, so you only need to pull the glove box off not the dash :)

I know, but I want to take the dash off so I can physically follow the wires to their destinations/sources. Not that I don't trust your info, but purely because I don't trust car manufactures to use the same wire colours all the time! I know it sounds silly and its creating more work for me, but my little bit of OCD comes out every now and then :S

hey don't get me started about wiring loom colours and pin numbers changing between phases lol, there are wiring changes in each of the n15 esm updates, all of them!.

nothing wrong with wanting to be sure bud, saves any head scratching down the line :)
