N16 SR20DE

Theres 5 boxes ;) arb droplink bushes, shifter bushes and steering rack bushes are the other 3!
cool. I was just wondering. I ordered the front wishbone bushes and the rear bushes. I was just wondering what are the other boxes.

good luck with the swap :-)

If you can make this go very smoothly, i.e no bodging, no lopsided engine, almost like a perfect step by step then it might just save the N16 as we know it.
or I can build up N15 GTi Wiring looms and sell them :-)

I plan to. Im taking photo's of the important stages and keeping a log of all the wire colours ect that are needed. I wont be bodging it as it's MY car so it will be done properly this time round.

So far I have found that alot of the wiring for the clocks is the same colour between the N15 GTi and the N16 which makes life a little easier.

The only things left on my list to pair up to get the engine running ('load' wiring will be done once running) are;

*Starter signal (n15 side done)
*RPM (n16 side done)
*Rad fan relay (n15 side done)

Not bad for 2 half days of work :) But with the starter signal, ive got 3 wires from the N15... a black/yellow that comes from a 7.5amp fuse on the interior fusebox to pin11 on the interior-engine loom connector, a black/white that is on the smaller of the 3 plugs on the left of the engine (cant remember where it goes to) and a black/red that comes from the ignition barrel and goes on to the top of the starter motor.

I are slightly confused with wiring now so ill have another look tuesday with a clear head and we'll see if i can work it out.

...And so it begins. Great stuff Liam. If you need any extra bits I'm breaking my black one in a week or two so let me know if anything before it gets binned. Make it a Haynes swap and you shall be king of the N16. Louis XIV!

Start motor gets is cranking power straight from the battery does it not? Theres obviously a signal feed to tell it to go tho. Ill have another look once i've cleared my head of all these wiring diagrams and colours and connectors ect :lol:

EDIT - ahhh Grandads engine :( might buy it back just for old times sake :wub: but seriously, talk to me about driveshafts and the sump pan (both the upper ally one and the lower steel one)...

Yeah sorry,
Signal is in the ignition barrel! The last click is the signal, which is the black/white wire which goes to the wire in the bay.

The power for it is.. I don't know from top of ma head, but i know i fiddled with it getting mine started, can check for you tomoz? Sorry im in a state atm thats why

its already been done, all the info anyone needs for the mechanical side of the swap is in my build thread, plus I can help.with the wiring as I've already done with it :tt2:

starter wire - I would of used the N16 original loom and just cut the connector and solder the N15 GTi one onto it (there is 2 wires) one thick one that is the power from the battery and the other one is from the ignition barrel.

RPM (not sure on this one as I have a separate tacho)
if your cutting and splicing the loom you can wire it up to the relay box next to the passenger side headlight. (ground) and all the N16 fuses will be fine. also cut the N16 rad plugs off and solder the N15 GTi ones onto it

also just to let you know the N15 GTi Alternator plugs straight into the N16 wiring loom :-)

Im not cutting/splicing main looms. All ive taken from the N15 is the interior to engine loom plugs and the NATS loom! Keepin it simples Daz ;)

Today I've bought;

Gearbox oil
Engine oil
Antifreeze
Power steering fluid
Power steering and alternator belts
VHT silver paint
Gunk engine degreaser
Gas for the soldering iron

Picking outer CV boot kits up tomorrow afternoon (they had to order them in) and the clutch should be here on thursday.

Tomorrows plan is to clean and paint the gearbox, finalise the SR20 wiring, take the dashboard off the Twister and start tracing :)

Yeah man it'll get painted, to make it tidy, but I dont know whether to do it silver or black? But either way I need someone to give me a hand to carry it outside so I can rinse it down as its got PAS fluid all over it :( Plus I want to flush out the water ways.
