What DONT you like about the almera?

mto be honest i find the almera much better handling even with a big rear beam suspension setup compared to my sunny which is lowered and has all round fully independant suspension, when i stripped the rear of the sunny it was very twitchy when trying to tackle an island for example, pop a heavy sub box over the rear wheels and it was much better.

One thing i would expect on an SRi standard would be all round discs.. look at most ranges of cars, the higher spec cars of the range usually have all round discs

Some Sri's did come with disks all round for some reason, mine didnt

Things that i don't like..

Seat and door card pattern.
No button for boot release. (once your at the back of the car)
Seat doesn't go back quite far enough.
Rear wheels look like they are too far in.
Front arches are bigger than rears, make the front look much higher
Rust!!
Missing front splitters on ph1's

Apart from that a cracking car for the money and probably why i have owned 4!

Whats this nonsense and crap in the wet.? Put some eagle f1's on and drive progressively and they are amazing in the wet.

Also someone metioned bad range on their central locking, try changing the battery, all have mine have been really good when the battery is full.

and finally piss poor lower back support for us lankys and it might just be me but my right foot hurts like hell if i drive it for more than 2hrs at a time.

I get that.

My hates:

Poo brakes.
Odd driving position.
Apparantly wasn't designed for someone over 6 foot.
Rust!

That's it for me really, i don't mind the interior tbh.

thats what i mean andrew, youd expect the discs across the whole SRi range, its got a sportier name so it should also perform a tad better than the lower specs, not just a nice bumper and colour coded mirrors.

Apart from all the points mentioned i really cant fault the car, considering the cars are near ten years old thats impressive in my opinion. Mine just sailed through the MOT and the emissions test was a breeze, cars done 102k!

  • Nissan prices - £28 for a 5 inch power steering hose ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!
    7.whaaaa.png
  • My ideal seat position is in between two settings (like others here)
  • The hesitation that I can't seem to pin down to anything!!
  • 1.4 ECUs are stubborn as a mule (no remapping capabilities whatsoever)
  • Lack of aftermarket parts (although not as bad as the Micra!)
That's it I think!

PS: MOT on Friday so i'll let you know if there's any more bad points then ;)

does that mean no remapping capabilities for a 1.6 either james?

onme thing id rather mine didnt have is there isnt much power until it gets to around 3k, pulls then drops off obviously. but im sure thats a 16v feature that could be smoothed with a remap session.

Nah the 1.6 has a decent ECU, the 1.4 ECU is a really restricted board, made very much on the cheap (probably because Japan didnt have a 1.4 Pulsar!)

i assumed theyd be pretty much identical ecu,s and the MAF and lamba would do the extra fueling work/calcualtion.

I quite like the driving postion, im 6 foot. The seat quite far back and the back as upright as it goes does it for me. though i do get slight back ache at any more than two hours constant driving.

Exactly how mine is. Seat almost fully back (one click in i think) on the runners and tilted up as far as it goes. Need one more click forward on the tilt though to be completely happy.

Ditto here too, but sometimes I get serious back ache

Seats are good for me.. im 5.10/5.11

..and this grip issue..? not evident with my car at all, im lowered 40mm with 17's and it handles better than my eGT( 35mm-17's ).. which WAS a gripping car..

im another lanky and could do with a few inches lower seat, but i cant fault the drivin position and location of all the controls.........

You cant blame a car for poor wet handling. That`ll be your tyres or driving style.

Why not? If you have the same tyres on one vehicle and another and took them both out on a drive one of them would handle better in the wet than the other surely. I know what you're saying don't get me wrong but a few people in this thread have mentioned that is is a bit poor in the wet.

My old Mk III Fiesta 1.8 16 valve handled better in the wet than the Mera. Even with shit tyres on. In the dry it's a different story though.

It could be the difference in weight I don't know and the Mera is a taller/bigger car. I lost it on an island with adverse camber in the wet in the Mera and I wasn't goin quick at all really. That was with standard wheels on though and on a completely standard setup. The 17's are much better now though in all fairness.

lack of power [ 1400engine ] . road/ tyre noise in car , poor wet grip , thats about it . ps im comparing this to my other car - a 2003 1600zetec focus [zetec has lowered / stiffened susp as standard], the focus is known to be a sporty handling car anyway

All this talk of rear beam suspension being shit??? The new Civic Type R is rear beam as honda found it more efficient and better suited to the cars chassis than an indepandant set up. So it cant be that bad.
