Who's feeling the effect of the higher petrol prices?

DANNYDAMANNY; guess living oop north can have its advantages sometimes[/QUOTE said:
Yep, I miss it - make sure I always fill up when I'm there, not that there's much left by the time I get back doon south. Need to buy more petrol cans...
I do tend to stick to the supermarket stuff though, and every time I'm tempted to go for that Tesco 99, the extra cost just makes a bad situation worse and I leave it for another time. But as far as it's affected my driving, I'm pretty sensible when accelerating from standstill, but still tend to let it all out on the bendy country roads I drive to work in.
Anyway, as for the fuel warning light coming on, anyone know what are the guideline figures for remaining mileage as soon as it kicks in? Not sure if I've been running on fumes or worrying unnecessarily...

not really feeling the difference at all, maily because i run a 1.25 fiesta every day so im spending less on petrol with that than if i was using the almera every day

btw its £1.14 up here for unleaded

my dad has now been promoted to `managing director of his petrol station' that he's been at for 14years works for murco
he was tellin me about the amount of people that are driving off without paying now has gone up by double in this year already compared to the past 8yrs

When it started to flicker on in my GTI, I used to do about 30 more miles before I got scared and filled it up again. I once did about 45-50 in the Scottish highlands though where I simply had no choice but to keep driving along some fairly hilly, twisty road until I got to a petrol station. That was proper scary. In the Xantia, I do about 20 to 30 miles, so keeping on driving when the light comes on should be fairly OK in most cases....

Really don't blame filling up and driving, good on them, wish I had the balls to do itl! Not exactly very hard thing to do anyway!

When I first got the GTi in Jan 07 it cost me £45 absolute max to fill up from fumes...now it costs me £55! A bloody £10 increase in a year?!?! come on...that's PROPERLY taking the piss.

And I agree, I toyed with the idea of getting a diesel but with that being 10p a litre more expensive than petrol it's just false economy.

Its one reason why Im glad I dont have a thirsty car anymore, when I first got the GTI it cost less than £30 to fill the tank!
the little diesel 106 has gone from £34 to fill the tank last summer when I bought it to £45 but I get around 500 miles for that, around 67mpg which I cant argue with that.

Not really feeling it too bad yet as ive still only got a 1.6, but £60 to fill the tank is crap. like 2 years ago im sure unleaded was like 92p a litre!

Just got back from Spain where petrol was as cheap as 1.13 EUROS per litre, which works out to well less than a pound. That was nice. Plus I managed to get 420 miles out of a tank - that's a combination of country roads, winding hills and motorway.

I did an oil and filter change recently and that really boosted my mpg, and gave me around 50 miles extra per tank on average.

Driving at 60 as opposed to 80 makes a massive difference to consumption. It just requires a huge amount of patience, and I've never really been able to achieve it for a full tank except when driving in a foreign country where speed cameras aren't easily visible and police hide in bushes with speedtraps and suburus :)

Also, the fact that my exhaust was hanging on by a bit of wire meaning anything other than light acceleration would screw me helped too :)

How many miles do you get to a tank in your 1.6. i only get 300. which is less that 30mpg...

Not many because im still immature and use my big right foot lol

try not to work it out anymore lol

i recently noticed that there is an old petrol station in my area that had been knocked down a few years ago but they left the prices up on the big sign

unleaded was at 83.9p a litre!! shows you how much it has gone up!

Right, when I started driving (October 2005) Petrol was 77.7p a litre, I used to shop around too because I thought 79.7p was expensive!
