this was the case with my almera 'e' spec, easiest way to check is simply to get under your car and see if the wiring is there, it may well be taped up behind the bumper a little bit. good luck

In response to my own question, after purchasing my own cable i can confirm the following: Nissan Almera N16 is OBD II, using the ISO 9141-2 Protocol, and any cable supporting 'EOBD' will work. Will install the software onto a more permanent laptop over the weekend and get back to this...

I can confirm that i have the same problem with my w reg 1.5e almera, no idea what causes it but not too much bother, will be interesting to see what the more knowledgeable people on here think it could be on mine its usually just when on clutch, mechanic suggested it may just be engine...

i can say that the speakers in my phase 1 n16 are shockingly good for a stock speaker set up, it was ridiculously crap with the stock casette player that was in there originally, but since i added my kenwood usb/mp3 head unit, noticeably better!

SOLVED!!! once you remove the lower panel (covering the cubby hole), the upper part containing the hazard light switch/vents unscrew the existing tape unit/fascia the cubby hole comes off with it as a black plastic box secured on either side by 2 screws remove the 2 screws replace...
