Autech GTi

reet gearbox is coming off this weekend just been chatting with my lecturer and from what Ive just described to him the diff is fooked, not worth trying anything, anyone fancy helping this weekend? :)

after much trawling through countless threads on pga and sr20 Im now confident that I do not have a mechanical diff, so wtf could be causing all the noise......

I went over the mounts countless times, as did my mech when I took it too him, the bearing was brandnew, if it had been installed in correctly there would be issues with the clutch disengaging, but its the smoothest clutch Ive felt in an almera......

every bolt is tight, went round them 4 - 5 times before lowering the car

couldnt get a torque wrench so Ive just been jumping on breaker bar doing up the hub nuts they are now......................... tight...

looking down on the driveshaft too, spoke to a couple people and it seems like its in properly....

I cant see how hub nuts are going to cause the noise. Did the shafts click into place when you pushed them in? I remember when I changed clutch on my SRi, the O/S shaft was a nitemare to get in but finally it clicked into place

how you gona get them off again?

with the same breaker bar....

It clunked in the first bit, took alot of persuasion with a mallet to get in the last bit,,

id have thought if the driveshafts werent in place it would be pissing gearbox oil everywhere?

true... not leaking at all

new gti gearbox is in, with the help of joe, went without a hitch apart from an unwanted dowel pin... can really feel the benfit of the flywheel now :) pulls so hard..

just an observation ive made, the clutch I removed from the autech before installing my new one the disc I took out was identical to the one I put back in, so its had a slightly uprated clutch in it, with a standard ish pressure plate, this was apparent from how hard the clutch would bite, when clutch kicking :) the bearing I removed was toast

I will be stripping down and rebuilding the autech box, if the gears are in good condition, which they should be. will also be replacing the diff with either a rebuilt vlsd though I am in the process of tracking down a cusco mechanical unit :)
