BeardedViper N16

No Eddie, but ive never seen rears arches as rotten as N15 ones.

As harry has said, get it pumped full of dintrol cavity wax and then 2 or 3 coats of underseal/stone chip. Mine was replaced 10 months ago and when it was MOT'd it came back with an advisory for front cross member starting to rust!!!

thats cos the n15 cross member was 3 times the thickness so full thickness rust takes a lot longer. and iirc they are higher up and more protected from direct stone damage and salt/grit etc etc

After all that palava with the MOT and rust I decided I was going to clean everything down in the engine bay to see whats happening in there and then I'm going to clean all of the underside of the car and will wack some curerust shiz and underseal it.

I did not realise how filthy the engine bay was! This is going to be ongoing for quite some time. At present I have spent 2 hours cleaning and the results are virtually minimum. Anyway here are a few photo's of the 'progress':

Before any cleaning had started:

Spending most of Thursday and all of Friday so hopefully I will get somewhere with it after then.

I would but I haven't got a clue what is hiding below all the shit. If there has been a shoddy electrical repair I could be without a car which I really can't afford to happen...

Although I'm bitching about it taking so long I'd prefer to still be able to drive my car afterwards.

Naaaah get on it will be alright. Just dont focus on the electical plugs ect. Blast all the shit off the bulkhead, struts, engine/box then detail the bits you're too scared of pressuring!

Ahh yeah! Ok then I'll let rip with the pressure washer then get the worst off and will go from there. Obviously a sensible idea to remove the battery if I'm going near the engine with water hahaha.

Cheers mate

Had more fun today and got my HIDs through the post. When I fitted them to my old Almera I spent almost 3 hours cause it was so fiddly behind the unit. Decided to use what little intelligence I have and took the headlight out of the unit. Found more rust which is lame. Final pic is of the healights on the car at night. I know these aren't with projector lenses but I have never had a single complaint about these and this is driving behind people I know and with the driving past. The Phase1 headlights seem to be good at not overly dispersing the light from the HID. The pictures follow:

And now the car with the HIDs fitted...

I also got round to fitting a sticker for the hell of it too :)

I love the HID's so much better than standard lights!

HID's FTW mate looking good. Are they 8k as they've got the slight blue ish tint?

I'll have o get mine sorted soon but as always funds won't allow lol

No sure why your car seems so rusty though as it's newer than mine but seems to have a lot more rust for whatever reason? (famous last words lol)

They're 6k mate I think the 8k are a bit too much!

I'll link you where I got mine from mate, I ordered them yesterday morning and got them today at 9.15am they're shit hot on postage!

I'm sure the last owner decided to wash her with salty water for shits and giggles :( haha

Jim your a HID whore haha lookin good man, the rust doesnt look major, is it surface or full thickness? Bit of treatment and it'll be ok :D

It seems to be just surface rust at the min so fingers crossed I can sort it relatively easily. Will get on it soon as i think it is supporting the main bar that goes between the headlights

Cheers for the compliments fellas :)

Summertime soon mate to make life a tad easier to get things done. They do look sweet though :)

Can't wait for the long summer days! Think I'm taking the car off the road for a bit in the summer to start really ripping it back so I can sort all of the rust out and have myself a half decent shell :)

Changed my spark plugs today for some NGK iridium IX ones. Couldn't work out how to remove the coilpacks without damaging the screws yesterday but thankfully Ryan set me back on track by explaing the obvious way to remove them using a socket instead of a screwdriver.

Took out all individual spark plugs and fitted the new ones. After a closer inspection it is clear I have a fucked fourth cylinder :(

Any ideas why it has ended up like this? I'm going to have a bit of a research now but I'm guessing that cylinder is fucked and I'm looking at a loooooot of money to rectify the problem.

Heya mate haven't got a clue why it's gone like that but maybe that'd explain why it's not been running properly though?

Fingers crossed it's a cheap enough fix to get sorted :)

Just did a bit of researching and this sounds kinda worrying:

"Overheated
plug_overheated.jpg

A clean, white insulator firing tip and/or excessive electrode erosion indicates this spark plug condition. k This is often caused by over advanced ignition, timing, poor engine cooling system efficiency (scale, stoppages, low level), a very lean air/fuel mixture, or a leaking intake manifold. When these conditions prevail, even a plug of the correct heat range will overheat."
