Time for yet another update! (This one is a big one - Sorry for the picture whoring!)

Kipped over at Andy's last night and while I was at work he begun to cleanse my rusted engine bay :D (Which may I add is much appreciated dude!) He set up a waterproof (non-waterproof) gazebo around my baby:

When I finished work I headed back and decided to tackle the rocker cover:

Dead flies heaven! This is part way through and it was coming up seriously well! Had a few issues with the right hand side of the engine (Burned on oil which just WONT budge!) hence why I am looking for a second cover to spray up. The following is of the manky plugs which cleaned up really well (bar again some brown substance that will not budge).

The following is of the finally product which I think looks a hell of a lot better than when I started. The brown stain is really obvious here..

Andy in the mean time had been cleaning away at the coolant cap, power steering cap, fuse box, air box (which is an arse and will need more work doing) and cleaning all of the black work inc pipes. Pictures follow:

He also cleaned the red battery terminal cap and the red and yellow (Thought it was genuinly black!) Earth cable. Before of the terminal cap:

The following is of bits I will be cleaning up more thoroughly. Once everything is clean I will then look at engine dressing :)

The following are getting stripped off and cleaned up:

So yeah, sorry for waffling on but there is a bloody big update on my engine bay degreasing progress :) I'm hoping to start stripping bits off to paint them up soon and then I can finally finish the major engine clean. After then I will just keep on top of it every week :)

A big thank you to GldnAndy for letting me use his drive to clean and for all his help in cleaning the engine bay with me. Keep an eye out for future updates on how the engine is coming along!

Jim

Looks much much better mate. Looks like mine'll be keeping the bonnet very firmly down lol

I used to use the McDonalds degreaser (purple spray) stuff just used it neat. The stuff is genuinely lethal and cleans like nothing else I've used before but since I left I can't use it any more lol

Haha I might try stealing some from wetherspoons then! Fingers crossed it'l do the same job as it seems to burn the hands of the kitchen staff xD

go and ask at Maccies, make a donation and use it neat like I said. I used to have an orange juice bottle full of it and still had some left and made a hell of a difference of my celica :)

Looking good mate. That brown/cream coloured stuff is from someone using Gunk or similar. It reacted on my plastics in exactly the same way. The best way to get rid of it is using wire wool and AC90/GT85 ect.

Be VERY careful when you undo the bolts on the radiator support brackets, they are very very very prone to snapping.

got some shit hot degreaser used in aero industry coming, wont beat it i reckon, i was thinkin bout the bolts etc, got acces to tooling for drilling out snapped bolts and i think jim is gonna be getting plenty of spare bolts etc from scrappies on our visits.

nice work guys! i really need to get under the bonnet sorted out but i'm waiting till the engine comes out for the swap to give me more room to work lol

Cheers fella's :)

Next week is the start of unbolting parts so that we can have better access to cleaning things and also so that parts can get painted up! I'm determined to have a clean engine bay haha

only tip of the iceberg, jim is ocd bout the cleaning, at this rate hes prob gonna want to strip the engine bay completely then put it back together piece by piece haha. jk jimbo

It's true I'd happily spend hours upon end making sure I get every little piece of dirt!

If I had the facilities I would pull the engine out and start from scratch haha

Ebay or a fixings/fasteners shop. Get an assortment box of 1.25mm thread pitch. I should have but most of mine are already snapped!

Ah ok thread hijacking here but can you get anodised ones Liam do you know as it could tart up the bay a bit too or are they over rated and just as bad as Nissan ones?
