Corbsport Enterprises

Nah starter is turning everything, cams, chain etc, valves all working correctly, compression check showed nothing but it still may be leak.

The new engine has run previously, but not been run-in.

Out of my 3 SR20s here:

Red GTi - Fucked (Rod knock)
Black GTi - Not running (suspect)
And then the new SR20, which I know can fire and idle.

looks like a cool project, you will be swapping sr20's in minutes soon

remember when you signed up saying you didnt know much in the way of mechanicals (pretty sure it was you im thinking of), obviously come a long way since then!

Yep they really, really, really hate me lol.

Cheers fellas - yeah sprint its been quite a journey! Although still a very long way for me to go, but it really does help to have friends around :)

I find this puzzling to be honest, hope you get it sorted mate. Seems like an extreme to swap the engine.

What were the compression figures?

From what what i can see, You have spark, you have fuel injecting and you have compression.

Are you 100% its timed up properly, Valve and ignition timing. Thats the only thing i can think that can be at fault.

you mentioned a 'stone in a pond' type noise when cranking, which also leads me to think it could be valve tiiming.

^ i was thinking the same. Sr20s are so tough and rarely have mechanical issues. Can you turn it by hand and put no1 cylinder to TDC, then take a pic of the cam gears?

ITS ALIVE!!
Major respect to all the Guy's who swapped the engines over today, while I was busy ripping the GTi rear axle and other goodies off the scrap car.
The raceworx rebuilt engine started first time, proving the other engine was at fault, and it was bloody loud with no manifold on it! Haha

Indeed it lives! I'll upload some pics and raceworx has some vid of the startup.

It had no ancillaries on it at all, but it didnt even stutter just fired straight up!

Thank god for that as it really was 11th hour for me.

In 3 days the Jap-n-crazy crew have removed 2 SR20s, installed another, lowered an almera, and rewired an entire GTi, all with basic tools.
Just proves that hard work and patience can pay off.

The working almera has cost me £430.

GTi Alive at Last PICS

As said above, today we got up at 9am to collect an engine crane to do as much as we could to the GTi. It was raining heavily and spirits were not high.
CRIM0003.jpg

Dropped the engine and gearbox to the floor with the crane, then lifted the car up to drag it out.
CRIM0005.jpg

It got pretty pimping at the back
CRIM0004.jpg

With both engines side by side we started swapping over everything (Quite a lot as it turned out). Gearbox, pulleys, clutch (The one in the red GTi was nearly new so installed that), inlet manifold, throttle body, water and oil pumps and lines.
CRIM0006.jpg

Joe was disposing of some of my scrap metal for me
CRIM0007.jpg

Head off the original SR20 and apart from a gap small in between piston 1 and the block nothing seemed to be amiss. I was not happy at this point and very dubious about whether the new SR20 would work.
CRIM0008.jpg

Although i did find a use for the old block.

Gearbox on
CRIM0010.jpg

CRIM0011.jpg

Dragged the lot under the car and prepared to lift into place, lining it up using raceworxs crane operating skillz.

Wiring the engine loom up
CRIM0015.jpg

Then attempted to start it, I wasnt holding my breath as I turned the key, expecting the same thing to happen as before, but without any hesitation the SR20DE roared into life!
There was much rejoicing.
CRIM0016.jpg

At this point we were all shattered as we had been working for 3 days on the car, so we tidied the lot away, scrubbing the floor to get rid of the oil stains etc.
All that remains is to reconnect everything, buy new tyres, MoT the thing and enjoy it at last.

Major respect to everyone who turned up and helped. We accomplished an awful lot as a team :)

So glad it started!
For you, and everyone that was slaving away to get it running!
Major props to all you boys!
You'd better not leave it another year before you put the interior in! Haha, if you're still working on it when I'm back on the road I'll come & give you a hand ;)

Thats awesome man, glad to see the engine works and its finally being used, Imagine if I could have taken it ;)

yeah what a weekend ill put the vids up 2morrow... im realy hapy my engine is finaly in somthing 3 years after i built it... was proud it fired up first time best long weekend iv had in years!

Props to you for building the engine anyway boss, and that it fired up first time sweet!!
Any chance you've still got those coilover sleeves?
If so could I send you some money to cover postage to me?
Cheers, Joe

To be honest mate in the end I think it was a hydrolocked piston from the accident.

Now I actually have Ians old car and his engine both working in harmony! I need a new raceworx sticker.

This weekend was indeed a journey, and an education. Two owners clubs (JNC and AOC together and we did so much work in a relatively small amount of time, a garage would probably have charged hundreds if not thousands to do this amount of work.

The car is far from finished, but the end is in sight at last.

Sam: I'm so glad you didnt have the engine in the end!

blimey looks like i actually did somethin lol and lol@ jim lookin like phil mitchell again hahaha

im over the moon dude, you owe dave and ian BIG time...
