Yeah I was going to say it looks awfully odd sat in such a big space. Great job on cleaning the gunk off though!

uphill climb with that engine bay eek. even when i first brought mine, the engine bay was just never dirty - result. least if anyone can Mike can. me myself, not a fan of private plates - good work tho on the clean up.

Nice stuff Mike, What's in the Chemical Resistant Bottle, that used to remove the sticky stuff?

It's just de-greaser, I always de-grease under the sills and shuts when I wash it, I actually used some stuff we had lying about the house to remove the sticky stuff from believe it or not Betterware the homewear people called ''sticky stuff remover'' it worked pretty well and smells like oranges which is also a bonus! Trouble is I think those sticky pads had been on since it was new so it took a while to persuade them away from the car.

Engine is in a bit of a mess, I did give it a quick flash over today in the bonnet shuts and nooks but nothing worth writing home about really need to give it a nice deep clean, remove the battery and get right in under that try which is hording dirt, found 5 dead wasps today in there too!

The plate doesnt look bad in the flesh but I guess it's one of those marmite modifications because its tiny, actual plate used to belong to my Dad whom the initials at the end are from I have had it on my cars since he died a while back, its been a ballcahe getting it swapped this time round from my old car to this one DVLA are so slooooow.

Getting the shocks ordered Monday along with lowering springs to bring it down to earth a bit as the wheels appear to have had an argument with the arches and dont fancy comming down to tea!

Lol, great name for it.

I know how you feel!

Having money again is excellent, I have just brought new rear shocks and a set of Apex -35mm lowering springs which should be delivered Wednesday.

Just need to get them fitted now, are there any budding Almera mechanics who could tackle this job local to Essex for some reddies?

Most Garages want silly money to do it and the guy who I usually use doesnt fancy it by the sounds of things :(

Do you not fancy doing it yourself? It's quite an easy job if you have a socket set and some WD40.

mike honestly mera suspension is easy to change you will need spring compressors 17mm 12mm socket a 17mm spanner and wrench and honestly its piece of piss to do. owe and if the metal plates are still in the back i think their a 10mm to

Im going to tackle this on Saturday, trouble is I dont have any spring compressors, Is there anything else I could use in its place?

not really. i wouldn't fancy bodging something to compress them and having them fly off! they don't cost much, I got some from Machine mart for about 20 quid, but im sure you'd get some to do the job for cheaper.

Actually scratch that I know someone who has some! Will let you guys know how we get on :tt2:

Bloody springs havent arrived either which sucks so it'll just be rear shocks this week. Ordered the wind deflectors aswell which should arrive tomorow.

hiya mike,
where about do you live in essex?

if your not to far away and if the weather is good we could meet up, :)

Yeah would be good to meet another Almera owner, never seen any so far! I live in Maldon but flit over to the missus' gaff in Chelmsford daily aswell, I see your in Romford, do you ever come down this way? If not I sometimes come up that way on occasions.

Rear shocks have now been all sorted, the removal of rear boot fittings is somewhat tedious and took ages, broke 2 fixings which wasnt too bad at all really considering how many you have to remove!

I need to get hold of one of the plastic fittings which holds the rear carpet sections in (one with the hanger on) anyone have one or know the part number for it so I can get it from Nissan's?

Rear shocks which we removed were totally FUBAR and had no pressure left in them, the legs on both were smothered in caked on grease and oil which looks like they had been leaking for some considerable time.

Mmmmm rotten!

I do however need to order some new boots for both sides as the kit didnt supply them which was a bit dissapointing, does anyone know where I can get a set or the Nissan Part number off hand? Also I requre a new set of top gasket type things as show below on the left (whats left of it) so if anyone can help me with whom supplies these I'd be appreciative.

So all in all a good day and the car rides lovley again now which has pleased me alot, due to delays with the springs having to be ordered from abroad I will have to wait another two weeks (so we'll have to take it all apart again haha!)

Treated myself to a new hose and gun and all sorts of cleaning goodies to celebrate
