Eddie's SRi

there is reduced travel, about 50% less compared to the standard suspension, you can see straight away by the length of the spring

the spring compresses a LOT less than an OEM spring though. so there is not actually reduced piston travel.

when jacking up chris' car the wheel is off the ground almost straight away cause the spring doesnt decompress much at all

yeah the whole idea of coilovers and their adjustability means you lose no damping travel at any point....

I jack up the front of mine and the rear wheel comes off the ground at pretty much the same time

That contradicts itself. If the spring compresses less, that means the piston doesnt travel so far. Travel isnt just up the way, its both up and down. These coilovers bottom out frequently and thats when the car "hops"

edit: i give up trying to explain this to people who have no basic understanding other than wikipedia, morons

I'm with you on this one Alan - if you start with a shorter spring and damper than OE, then it stands to reason that there is also less outright travel available. Hence the reason that my shortened/stiffened Gmax springs will bottom out with OE shocks on. The 'slack' is already taken up just by the preload, therefore the suspension has less travel available to absorb the bumps.

Coilovers and being low is good until as Craig said you start eating through driveshafts and wearing away the engine support bracket...

But screw it, i love really low cars...My D2s have alot left to go on them and very soon i'll be going a bit lower then i am

Just watch your sump ;) Ive been lucky so far

but ok, they travel less, but they're firmer to compensate - it doesn't mean they bottom out as such. but the ride may be bumpy and hop a bit purely cos of the added firmness surely

agreed craig. they have the same downward travel. the upward travel is limited by the length of the damper rod. which i bet is a similar length to the stock items. the only difference being the stiffer springs do not compress as much so dont give as much upward travel. hence why hitting a pothole hurts more with coilies cause the shock doesnt extend far enough to follow the change in level.

essentially we are both right alan... less travel in one direction, but not the direction that really matters.

Minor Update

Really pleased so far with the BC racing coilovers.. ill let the pictures do the talking

can i jsut say eddie!

your car looks REALLY nice!

you need some better headlights and sidelights like but still looks VERY nice!

i dont like the all black interior! you need cream baby!

but overall it looks very nice in photos!

I want this interior. Car looks clean though, would go lower myself and remove the NISMO seatbelt pads. How come the front bumper looks slightly darker though?

Looking good Eddie...

I think the ride height needs dropping 5mm all round, then it'll be sexual!

Im against the seatbelt pads. And a for the bonnet mod, maybe when you've got serious power under the bonnet to warrent such 'additional cooling'.

But good work so far! :)

im guessing since its a GTi front bumper its come from another car and maybe resprayed! i fi was gonna be very picky i could tell you that the whole kit has a slight turn in colour to the bodywork! but it isnt that bad! but then i also look at paint everyday, so can see stuff like this lol!

I resprayed my bumper in the summer using rattle cans sourced by Ross.. Bumper needs proper respray to be fair. Which as it happens is on the cars big time.. custom flick might add :)

Your not the only one, preparing for big changes ;)

Pauls told me itl settle/drop by that amount anyways. Cant really have it any lower to be honest on skinny 195/50/15's arch gap looks shite imo

Im happy cause I still can do the stuff I used to be able to do, like get over speed bumps down/uphill at my local leisure centre etc

And Chris180 the leather Interior will be up for sale soon, no point hoarding a complete front/rear interior if im only ever going to have just two front seats in.

Good to hear it Eddie...just put it into practice, and you may lose you 'muppet' status :)

As for ride on 195/50 15, tell me about it....it sucks :(
