My QG18DE powered pulsar Q

Over the past week or so, i've since had the intercooler pipes welded up, and some flanges for the MAF and BOV made up and welded:

On tuesday, I went out to see my tuner(adam), and give him a run down on UpRev. He was really impressed with the research i've done, and is quite stoked with the software. He was concerned about the way Uprev deals with timing, because the maps arent in degrees btdc. What is seen in the Nissan table is a representation of the TIME that it takes for the cylinder pressure to reach peak pressure after the plug is fired.

Adam feels as tho I should really upgrade the MAF. Uprev have a unit that is good for 600hp+. He's also asked me to contact uprev and get some k fuel values for the wrx 440cc injectors.

I'm having alot of difficulty finding the right sized orings to fit the wrx injectors. most efi shops here, seem to have small stock of orings on hand, and order them by vehicle type rather than size. I've since ordered the orings from america, the same kit, that everyone uses on b15u.com. I'm hoping to have these injector orings and maf arrive before next friday.

Good progress there :) What sort of power output are you aiming at ? I ask because I used 330cc injectors from a Mazda 3 MPS for my supercharger conversion & they had a bit of room for more power. Mine was sitting at 192 bhp & 170 lbs/ft of torque. I guess you're going for 200 bhp minimum ?

Because of the qg prone to popping headgaskets, I'll be aiming for around 200hp atw, yes.

I'll be ordering some arp head studs and an ajusa headgasket a little later on, for when the time comes, that the gasket blows. I'm also looking at upgrading the turbo to a gt2860rs .64 trim later on in the future.

It's interesting you say that about the headgaskets because I don't know of a single one that's gone over here. But I guess you may be referring to the charged Sentras in the US ?

I'm aware of 2 cars that have blown headgaskets here. But both have been series 1 cars. So I'm unsure if there is any difference with the s2.

There is a difference between headgaskets. Some QG18s came with MLS as standard, some didnt. Might be worth going into nissan and asking if they could find out the part no for the MLS one.

i've finally sourced the correct orings to fit the wrx injectors.

Today i spent virtually the whole day putting everything on the car. turbo, manifold etc. Upon starting the car it was determined the turbo is stuffed. It wont hit boost, and is blowing ALOT of white smoke.

Now i've just got to weigh up wether it'll be better to rebuild it, or purchase a new turbo.

Certainly sounds like a failing turbo . . . . . will you go for the same type again ?
I'm gonna pull it all off the car when I get home, and tear the turbo right down. If I can rebuild it, I will.

For the price of a rebuild kit and to have it balanced, it'll be about the same as buying another one, but without the risk of a 2nd turbo that is stuffed.

I've thought about buying a disco potato, but it's money I don't have ATM and I just want the car done. In the future I'll upgrade, but not now.

Friday afternoon I pulled the turbo back off the car. After a bit of fiddling around (with my neighbours help), we managed to remove the large circlips that hold the exhaust housing and compressor housings on the turbo. With those both removed, disassembly of the turbo centre was rather easy and not too difficult.

heres a picture of the turbo's internals all spread out to help make my life easier when its time to put it back together:

It appears the turbo's died from oil starvation. It has a blue ring around the shaft.

Oops - not so good !

To say I'm disappointed is putting it lightly. I bought the turbo etc yrs ago, and it's been sitting around for a while, but I ensured it was full of oil before I started the car.

The shaft is quite discoloured, so i think the turbo may have been dead before I got it.

I'm hoping the rebuild kit arrives tomorrow, do I can rebuild it at work tomorrow night, then take it to a local shop to be vsr balanced.

So i've been having a really busy time with work.

The turbo has since been rebuilt and is back on the car. I ran into problems with inadequate oil drainage from the turbo, so i had to pull the sump off again, and i've upgraded the drain line from -8an to -12an. No problems since.

I am still awaiting arrival of the Uprev GT MAF sensor, but i've been assured it should be arriving this week sometime. As such the car is booked in to be tuned next week.

I've never heard of that mod being done, but if it solves the problem fair enough. :)

Are you talking about the maf??

If so, I've been getting mixed reports on the stock maf sensor maxing out. It's really really easy to swap between the 2 maf sensors with uprev. My tuner and a few other people recommended upgrading the maf sensor. I could have probably gotten around not doing it, but im planning on doing further power mods once the interior/exterior is finished.

Nope, I was referring to the upscaling of the oil drain line - never heard of that done before.
ahh fair enough.
The turbo was blowing massive amounts of smoke, even after the rebuild. I rang and checked with the turbo specalist who VSR balanced the turbo and he straight away suggested my drain line from the turbo to the sump may either be kinked or too small. I told him I was running a -8an hose. which is 12.5mm. straight away he suggested i upgrade to at least 16mm ID hose, but recommended a 19mm ID hose, so i opted for a -12an speedflow hose

just read this frm start to finish :O great wrk here .. glad to see anothr n16 5 door hatch ;) even if yours is 10000000 bhp more than mine haha
