Hi folks,
Not been on in a while so wee update.
Had a disaster of a year last season, broke a driveshaft at the second event. Obviously it was the short vzr shaft that broke so finding a replacement was a bastard (although I have since found out you can get a complete shaft from nissan with cv's but cannot get outer cv by itself for some unknown reason). That put me out for a few weekends. I then got it sorted, then I spun out at an event and ripped the sump pan off so that which put me out for the last couple of weekends. Joy!
It sat in the shed for a couple of months until I could be bothered to look at it. I then got a bit over excited (as is the norm over the winter months) and decided a full shell resto was needed so sent it off to Warpspeed performance in Kilbirnie for a full strip down. Shell has been completely restored and lightened to within an inch of its life including a new non sunroof roof skin then resparayed in original aj4 red. Finally got my act together and sorted a bearing for the cusco diff and fitted a 5.1fd at the same time. engine wise it is the same as last year other than the lack of a crank girdle and a new oil pan. Cooling system now a fully custom set up with a tiny rad pinched from a mini racing car.
Was quite disappointed with the times last year as they were quite close to the previous year despite a power increase of around 30bhp. This was purely due to a lack of grip. The diff and the addition of a set of avon slicks should help the traction no end. Suspension has been modified with a slight increase in rear track using gtir rear links and a big increase in caster with modified strut tops and whiteline caster bushings should help rear stability and turn in.
Big shout out to Scott at Warpspeed for his patience as I have thrown a silly amount of ideas his way. His is second to none and has a knowledge of old Nissans that would rival most of the forum 'experts'. Would think twice about recommending his bodywork and fabrication skills to anyone, so much so that the old Sunny will be carrying Warpspeed livery for the next couple of years. Heres hoping it gets out a bit more this year so people can see it!
I'll get some pictures up in the next few weeks when its all buttoned up. Got first outing at the end of May so I'll try and figure out how this gopro thing works too!
