would it not just flake off in time?

why is there always so much negativity all the time on thIS forum by certain peeps, its really starting to pee me off :(

Its a POTENTIAL safety issue, not negativity.

Something is starting to piss me off, and its not this.

its not negativity, its offering up accepted wisdom on a potential safety issue, but yeah its liams car and he can do what he wants with it, not my lookout I suppose

wasnt pointed in your direction phil, but saying that tho if he's done it to all discs in the past and never had a problem with brakes or pads or the stoppage times etc, thens whats the problem? would be different i think if they were painted on, but its sprayed which to me is slightly different in thinckness etc

I can see your point on the safety side of things, but as per my experence ive not had any dangerous side affects!

Z32 calipers arrived yesterday so I decided to do a trial fitment of the front brakes.

Mounting brackets on but due to the smooth section on the bolt being too long (probably due to the 200SX having a different thickness mounting point), some washers were required..

After putting the disc on and strugging to get the calipers on, I realised I needed the washer spaced differently, like so...

All fitted up...

The pads overhang the discs :S the orange bit is the pad and fresh black part is the disc. Its only a couple of mm's out so ill chamfer the edge of the pad and we'll have to see what happens....

Now for the moment of truth....

THEY FIT UNDER MY PRO RACE 1.2s!!!!!!!!

10mm Caliper to Spoke clearance :D

The only issue being there's a flat section on the top of the caliper that's catching on my wheel weights, 30 seconds with a file sorted that tho...

So all in all a fairly successful fit, just need to see if I can sort something out with the pads, but hopefully with a chamfer on there it'll be alreet. PLEASE NOTE, you need to use the mounting bolts from the Z32 calipers. The kit from DB Power only comes with the bolts for the bracket to hub.

A before and after for easy comparison...

Just awaiting my polys then ill get the whole lot fitted, cant wait now!!

looks good mate, like I said when the brackets arrived I don't understand the reason for the canted caliper, especially down the way, maybe swap the brackets round so the calipers cant up the way instead?

They are moved down because on the 200sx they are higher up as standard, this kit moves them to a vertical position, but obviously theres differences in the hubs. I think if you were to turn the brackets over it would cause the caliper to foul on the strut. I will try it when fitting for real, but I just dont think theres enough room.

yeah leem they look great!!

your like me but for the n16 boys, to have the first 300zx 4pots, :):)
they will be give great stopping power!! :)

Eddie - No you couldnt get bigger discs on there, where the disc enters the edges of the calipers there is perfect clearance so no extra space to increase without having different brackets made again.

Ed - Im going to give him a call tomorrow and then send the pics over :)

Are the pads right for the setup? the metal bracket aligning the pads keeps them prized outwards away from the discs right? The size of the disc/carrier displacement is the only other thing that could of caused that surely, the bigger the circle (brake disc size the flatter the leading edge, with a smaller brake disc having a sharper curve that would poke out into the caliper covering the pads better?

What were the size of the discs originally for the caliper/pad setup back when it was on the car from factory.

Does look good though liam although doesn't completely dwarf the old break setup, N16 have quite good brakes to begin with much better then poxy N15 ones

so this is just the s** kit then? that will explain the caliper angle and pad problems, tbh I wouldn't be happy with the pads like that, should be looked into before he offers these as n16 compatable, I think I'll just make up my own brackets to mount my 4pots, but I can't make my mind up which size discs to use lol. also what pads did you buy mate, for 280, 296 or 310mm discs? as the mounting pattern is the same, just the friction material is different for each size

so this is just the s** kit then?

Not quite Phil. It's all explained in the N16 4 pot thread mate. It's an S13 bracket (for 315mm discs), but the discs are custom for this setup. It's just DB-Power got it wrong and thought 310 would be right. These are the R34 310 discs drilled to the right PCD.

it would seem that the usual 315mm discs in the S13 kit would be fine, but perhaps turned down 2-3mm. I'm sure armed with the pics DB-Power can sort it.

Nah the 300ZX uses 280mm discs as standard, so these pads aren't suited to the discs. Ive looked at R34 GTT pads (the discs are from the R34 GTT) but they seem to be identical to the Z32. So it must be a difference in caliper.

Yeah the discs dont look massive, but the calipers fill the wheels nicely :) Dont get me wrong, standard (discs all round) N16 brakes are really really good, simply adding braided lines and 5.1 fluid give the brakes enough edge to cope with a, even on a supercharged mera. But keeping with my old method, 'if it needs replacing, upgrade it', I decided to go all overkill!

EDIT - Phil, its not designed for these cars as such. Its basically trial and error. So what if its wrong, thats what happens when you're a guinea pig. Ill send the pics off to DB and see what he comes back with. But tbh im stuck with these discs now, im not 100% happy but ill still be running them as I just cant afford another £150+ for another trial and error set. Personally im not too sure if you'll get bigger discs under the calipers with the same brackets. Maybe the 315mm as Ed said, but it'll be very close!
