N16 SR20DE

what I found with the top mount nut is you can push the spring down then get whatever you are using to hold the centre of the shock under the nut and continue on your way

Well its finally done, took me another 3 hours today as I couldnt for the life of me get a good flare on the brake pipe. Once it was made it only took about 45mins to get the fucker connected to the master cylinder, i'm now fairly certain N16s are Jap designed, purely due to the tiny spaces which are left for you to put your hands! Its all on and connected up, bled the brakes 3 times to ensure there was no air left in them, pedal seemed really soft to start with but has firmed up now. Wheels on, wishbone and bottom ball joints tightened up and out for test...

Rears are binding slightly but the handbrake is quite loose, nearly goes to the top, the carriers arent seized at all and are well greased up and the pistons are free as you like (wound them back in with a grinder spanner), so just putting it down to the handbrake winding them out too far. Ive since de-adjusted the handbrake more so we'll see how they fair up.

Fronts seem ok, besides when you turn... Theres a really loud grinding/rubbing noise from the front driver wheel... Doesnt do it in a straight line, doesnt make a difference if your going fast, slow, accelerating, braking, coasting but its not getting any quieter? Any ideas folks?

But wow o wow o wow!! Poly trailing arm bushes are the BEST mod ive ever done on any car! No jokes!

But overall the braking system is brilliant, stops on dime and the pads wont have even bedded yet! Going to try and get the tracking done tomorrow as its now out after fitting a new TRE (which got rid of the knocking yay!) and im tempted to bleed the brakes a little more incase theres any little bubbles been pushed to the calipers....

Didnt take any pics all weekend so if I get chance tomorrow I will!

hehe good aren't they :thumb:

Glad you're getting on with the brake's performance. Have you checked the wheel and caliper for rubbing marks?

Good work what's next on the to-do list?

Engine first, then exhaust, then Nistune :)

I cant believe how much more planted the rear feels! Yeah they are good, cant wait till they've bedded in properly tho! Yup, im checked and theres no rubbing, theres atleast 3-5mm clearance between caliper and wheel :S Hub nut is tight too... Am slightly confused, will check the bearing in the morning, hope its not that tho :(

Anything rubbing on the wishbones, you've only poly'd them have you, not replaced them for other arms? I have heard of some pattern arms being slightly differently shaped, but if you havent replaced them it shouldnt be that.

Is the CV in the hub properly and all that?

Its not on lock and its only the driverside :S it happens between 1/2 and full turn left hand down...

Ill check the clearance of disc and wishbone tho just to be sure.

It just seems odd that its only one side and that it doesnt do it on full lock? Ill check it out tomorrow anyhow...

Cookie goes to Sprint, its the wishbone touching the disc... Very odd but problem now solved :)
