Phase 2 GTi

These things suck I should know.. but at least its easily fixable & not going to cost the earth!

But if your not 100% committed to the N15 now is a good time to move on :)

Never good mate :(

But ive got to get my vulture hat on here.

Dibs on the Tomeis?

sorry to read this bud, was such a cracking example, but lets be honest here its well salvageable should you wish too

This is very true... I'm not ruling it out yet, just need to see how everything goes really. It's early days yet!

I don't know anyone in the repair business though, so no matter what it's going to cost a few bob!

New wing, bonnet and bumper and a big hammer to sort the front panel will see that fixed easily.

Well there has been some good news....the women has accepted liability already, so at least months won't be spent disputing the accident!
So I have spoken to her insurance, who asked for the details of the damage and asked me to send them pictures... They will most likely write it off. Which means they will most likely come at me with an offer for the car... Has anyone experienced this before? I'm just wondering how it works really... As in, do can I refuse? Ask for more? etc... As I guess it will start really low?

In the meantime, I am sporting a Vauxhall Meriva... Lucky me!!!

Yeah they will offer a low ball price. Just send them pics showing it in its former glory, mint condition ect and tell them it will be hard to replace. You can refuse your offer and ask for more but you wont be getting much more than 1k tbh.

They'll offer you book value and it is the biggest pain in the ass ever to try and get it raised. My mate wrote off a mint XR3i and sent loads of evidence of similar/worse cars going for more money and they wouldn't budge.

Good luck though.

I will see what they offer and then I will see how far I get with raising it. I will definately send the pics of what it use to look like!
In fact, all they need to do is look at the rest of the car even with the broken front end to get an idea of its condition before!

^ Me too!!!

I've had it for 4.5 years now and made it into a great car. I have been thinking about changing but didnt want it to be because of this one being broken!
And whatever I have next it will take me a lot of time to find the love!

If its scrapped and you buy it back wont it be classed as a (cat a/b/c) crash damaged and be more to insure to future owners? Just wonderin

Cost more to insure? No.

They don't check if a car you are insuring is a write off, and why would it cost more if its been repaired to a good standard?

Heathen.

Will you be selling once its repaired?

Seems the front of this car has had its fair share of fresh BS7!

I'm not sure what is happening yet, I am looking to sell it as it stands with all the spares I have as well... I put this for sale thread together to see how it goes:

http://www.almeraownersclub.com/threads/1998-phase-2-gti-needs-repair-plus-more.44709/

I had a call today saying that the repair is 1900 quid, so it's definately a write off for insurance purposes. But could be fixed cheaply by someone if they wanted to!
