The Turtle

got some time to work on the micra today

first i modified the drivers SR20 mount to fit into the micra bracket. as less welding = better.

rick and scott checking the clearances of the crank pulley to the chassis leg, about 3-5mm. may need to get the trusty hammer out to make a little more space

finally we slotted the dog box into place. unfortunately it has a lot off tranny losses and has to shit every mile or so... so off it came

now the sad news. (to me anyway)

the old GX is sitting there in the background looking sorry for itself, unfortunately, its time to die. it will be the donor for all our wiring and other bits on this project. so it will live on in spirit.

R.I.P S265CJL. 18.0 seconds to 14.9 in your lifetime. along with 4 engines.

Some good progress there guys! The SR sure is snug in her new home. Are you boxng the leg to get more clearance or is it a block of wood and acetylene job?

as odd as it sounds, the water pump pulley has more clearance on this than it does in the mera...

as for getting more clearance, due to it only being a few mm. it will be getting bashed with a hammer to make more room lol

Ah right. I didn't know if it would be an engine out job to change the belt but I suppose the belts only 6-7mm thick so not much more space required. Probably worth bracing the front before you give it a whack. Just bolt on the cross memebers or something. This project is definately one to watch.

we were discussing that last night.

due to the p/s being removed, its gonna be a PAIN to change the belt for the water pump.

so when that day comes we will scrap it :P

or take the engine out lol

Could you change to an electric water pump then? Probably a cost you don't want to incur though on a ghetto project.

We could but its an un-necesary expense given the water pump fits. Its also unlikely we will ever need to change the belts in the lifetime of the car tbh.

My other optiomn is i get a spacer made for the water pump pulley and run one belt for the water pump and alternator. Allowing us to keep the tensioner for both ancilleries.

Decisions!

Get the engine mounted first though

All necessary wiring was removed from the Almera today and inserted into the micra. Everything was put into place. Really all that needs done now is to connect to an engine loom and join it to the back wires and it should start when required....

It will then be joined to this big mess....

We also hit a snag today regarding the brake master cylinder. The Almera one fits fine without an engine in there. But with the engine in that place it fouls on the whole unit. The Almera Brake master cylinder sits a good 4.5 inched further forward than the Micra one. So weve decided to swap to a non-ABS setup from a Micra.

ah well some time on the phone will dave bull tonight has answered a lot of the questions i had into this. so progress should accelerate now!

I remember the stock Micra 1.0L non-abs master cylinder being very close to the intake manifold, so much so that I had to flip it 180 degrees so that the vacuum port was on the opposite side.

It does clear...just!

See...

Anything else you need help or advice with, just give me a shout!

our intake doesnt stick out so far that way so i think we should be fine.

i might replace the pot if i can with a skinnier almera one

other thing i forgot to ask. what did you do for a water pump belt?
