updates on the n14 vvl/ nos/ lsd project

So the solenoids are clicking but, as far as you can tell, it's not operating the VVL? Is the oil feed to the solenoids ok? When are they set to come in? Did you not get it dyno'd when you had it mapped?

Car has been fitted with hks f con pro ecu.
I still have it at garage, has not been mapped yet.
So as in unmapped form, the vvl switches click but no noise. It really don't matter where it's set now as it's not mapped.
So shouldn't it sound different at any vvl switching or does it need to be mapped before you can hear the sound difference when switching?

Are you driving it to see if they engage... or just reving it... there won't be enough oil pressure to engage them if that's the case

as joe's said twice, vvl doesn't switch unless it's under load being driven. WILL NOT sound any different while sat still.

Oh and being a bog stock 20ve with mild breathing mods it won't be that distinct anyway so listen carefully when you do drive it.

gonna give us any clues as to what mods you've got on it? cams? header? anything? the goodies that are gonna make you hit 200bhp comfortably?

why does the engine being under load make any difference to oil pressure?

the car being revved at 5000rpm stationary is surely gonna create the same oil pressure as revving to 5000rpm while moving... the pump still spins at the same speed... (theory)

i know a VZR doesnt engage VVL stationary but i assumed that was down to a speed sensor...

Thanks for all your help guys, but got even better news.
Pulled the plugs out, blew them, cleaned them.
Plugged back in, and all working fine.
In a way you can still hear them change when they are revved and triggered from idle.

Time to map..
I wonder what points we will set them for best performance, my mapper thinks 4800/ 5000.

depends on cams for the switch points, and how those cams react to your header n stuff

if it's n1s you've got and a half decent header 4800 and 5000 will be too low. They'll probably dip there cos the low lobes woin't be near peak and the high won't be into their stride

16ve or 20ve cams will switch lower though probably yeh

if you weren't so cagey about your mods we could tell ya

Mods wise nothing great yet, just wanted it running first

Induction kit
LSD
Full exhaust system
No cat
Aftermarket header
Sr20ve
Hks f con pro
Quick shift
Brakes
Colis

Correct vtec/vvl wont kick due to vss (speed sensor)
