Whooped

Yeah same here, they always seems to going the opposite way! My trick is to dip the clutch as i pass them so i doesnt sound like im caining it, just fast cruising like! Its a bit obvious if you hit the brakes in the dark as i imagine they'll see the brake lights and know youre speeding.
I do a bit of fishing like, so usually my early morning drives down the country lanes are covered with an excuse for being out so early. My headlights (even with full beam) aint good enough tbh for night time country roads so i dont do it too often.

My 1.5 N16 has been known to level peg with modified VTRs and go past unmodified ones.

They really arent much cop. They're faster 0-50ish when modded, but past that they're a bit cack.

Hold the phone, I'm sure I read on here that a standard GTi can have trouble beating a VTR? My 1.6 got royally owned by one, so how come the Si's seem to be having a good go of it?

a GTi shouldnt have trouble with one, i dont think my Si would beat one in a straight race, still be a few car lengths in it easily but the shortish first gear does help a bit imo, after that the difference becomes obvious but while we were both in 1st the difference wasnt huge, obviously as the speeds get higher power means more and more though, i would imagine the 1.6 would make the difference then but i dont think the difference between the 1.4 and 1.6 is all that big really.

my dad beat me in the eGT whilst driving fairly lightly ALOT more than the saxo did, and a GTi should be slightly quicker again, and when i say driving lightly i mean pulling away normal and 5500 at the most and the almera on the limit.

beginning to wonder if the saxo may have been a 1.4 tbh, had the VTR door badge, wheels and the arches but im not convinced i should have kept up as well as i did do, was a young lad in it with a big exhaust so it wasnt standard, could have been a replica or it was real and had problems.

Corbs you might be getting mixed up with the VTS model which is the 16v 120bhp and 0-60 in around 7.7secs.
A VTR (8v) has around 90bhp and 0-60 is 9.9 secs. Forgive me if im wrong and you did actually mean the VTR model, its highly unlikely though as the GTI should eat a VTR for breakfast.

This is probably why the 1.4 saxo furio (16v idge?) coupled with the 1.6 bottom end is good for 110bhp at a guess as pointed out by syms.
Basically you end up with a a 16v 1.6 saxo with a slightly more restrictive head compared to a VTS.

As we know 16v is good for peak power, 8v is good for torque. This is why i think i can keep up with a VTR on a decent stretch of road. Id be interested to see a power graph for a VTR to see where its gets its peak HP. Mine produced peak BHP (95) at 5500rpm when it just had a cone filter on it.

was probably a furio sprint if you kept up with it.

dale im on 17s atm but with the 14s yeah the car is marginally faster but theres a certain place i go every now and then, and on teh short straight ill hit 85 down there, playing with mates cars such as saxo VTRs and 1.6 escort, vtr dominates easy and overtakes no problem, the escort is a bit more fun, i think their 16v. my used to level pegging with Si racers almera Si until maybe 60 and the sunny pulls slightly better and would get a couple of lengths on him.

if the vtr hits 60 in ten seconds, id agree with that because ive timed my 0-60 and its 12 seconds definate

dale your 1.4 produced 95 with a cone filter! what filter! tell me now lol i want more power

Its a secret ;) I have pics on here (members rides) if you really want to know.
That was with the cone bolted to the TB.
The Rolling road may have been slightly out by upto +/- 5bhp though. It was the college rolling road and cost nothing!

Right, im gonna have to get the stopwatch out and do a 0-60 run soon. Only trouble is i will need a passenger to do the timing so it will slow me down with the extra weight!

i think the speedo take about a second to register any speed even though your moving and a true 60mph is going to be about 65 on teh clock.

Just thought id add, my car is seemingly so powerful (lol) it actually ripped itself off the rollers on the first run! lol
We ended up tieing it down. :D

lmao i can imagine you getting 6 people to hang off the car as ive seen tht on RR videos he he

Just seen your filter arrangement, looks good.
Going to have a play tomoro, all ive got is a focus intake pipe between the filter and TB and 2 60mm diameter CAI pipes from one of the front bumper slats.
Think i may put the 14s back on tomoro and go find some VTRs lol

Damn! thats gonna mean an extra gear change into 3rd! lol

sod it just say your speedo only starts becoming inaccurate after 60 lol

id need 3rd gear anyway, do you have a different box because mine sounds very near the limiter at about 57mph in 2nd

No, mine deffo struggles to reach 60 in 2nd. Its a about 57 like you say. I dont hit the limiter often, but maybe just this once as its for a good cause..!

pretty sure at the limiter mine shows exactly 60 in 2nd, a while since its been there though so i cant remember exactly, obviously even then the speedo is innaccurate etc so GPS is needed really, going in to 3rd is going to add a bit though i would imagine, especially with the 1.4 not being overly willing to accelerate so even once your in 3rd you have to wait.

just go to the limiter in 2nd, then you can brag about it as it should look fairly quick with not needing the change to 3rd

Right im going to find the skinnyiest mate i have..what do you reckon the additional time should be with a passenger?

Well I'm not sure, but this guys one was definately a VTR and did own me, but maybe it's driver skill, guts etc.

too rite lol

ive been doing a couple of tests today, where my filter is located with 2 cold air pipe feeds when moving at decent speed the air temperature goes down to 19 degrees around the filter which is really good as it was only 20 degress in coventry today anyway, was going to move my filter where dale has put his but from my results dont think theres any point so no VTR fun for me booooo

Okay, the 0-60 results are in for my Si...i did two runs. I didnt launch (pulled off at about 1200rpm) as my clutch is slipping.

In the car was myself (10stone ish) and a passenger (12stone ish).

10.7 first run
10.8 second run

A bit dissapointed, but its decent improvement over standard.
