N14 SR20 Hillclimb car

would you be able to get some pictures of the oil ports? Im wondering if they have been modified..

The BTCC head I have is ridiculously short too. The oil ports have been tear dropped to suit the holes in the head gasket. I'm going to be running a 1.2mm gasket and some 8.3 : 1 pistons to bring the comp down to around 12.5 : 1. I need to check valve clearance though as the head will sit so low I may have to cut some reliefs in the piston crown.
What cams came in your head mate? Nismo or Janspeed's own?

Im about the 4th owner of it so the original cams were long gone. It had c3's in it by the time i got it. Pistons are the way to go. I'd also be wanting to fit bigger valves , solid lifters and bigger cams before using it. Might still build a lower compression bottom end for it but it won't be this year. Did you get anything else with your head?

Sam, you planning a mega skim?

I'm not no, the head I have has already been skimmed and has big valves in it, Sri_Alan had your head originally don't think he got it with the cams.

I got quite a bit with my head. Uprated springs, titanium retainers, Nismo cams and Roller barrel throttle bodies. I've sold a few bits off it but hoping to get some other parts back together. I haven't actually measured the valves. A job for tomorrow I think. :)

Spook did you buy that BTCC head from Rich?

....Phone....

No mate. Ross won it on eBay I think but couldn't be bothered to get it sent up to him so I went and bought it off the guy in Northampton (I think). It's an older one than the Janspeed head. JMR I think made it.

*EDIT* That's bollocks! it was RML prepped engine from 1997-8 it was destined for. It then went in a K12 Micra R which was later replaced by a 6 cylinder. The guy I got it from built the engine originally for the Micra and was offered the spares back when the lump was changed

Theres no real problems or downsides using a thicker HG as long as you keep the CR sensible. I found that to be the best solution with using this head.
On a 1.8mm gasket, flat top autech piston and c3 cams i only had 180psi cranking compression.
Loving the jenveys btw!

Cheers! I'm looking forward to seeing what sort of gain i get with them. Until i get the head and manifold matched i wont get the best of them but should still get a healthy bump.

The problem for me with the head is that to get the best of it you need to be running as high a compression as possible and you cant do that safely with a thicker gasket.

Got my bits back from balancing today, unfortunately the cosworth bearings i recieved last night are the wrong size and my spare block is worn to badly on 2 cylinders to be used without a rebore which is a bit of a bugger. So seeing as the only other block i have was the one i used last year and i have 3 days of my trip home left the hole lot is getting stuck up to precision engine services in elgin and the sorcerer can bolt it all together for me. That way when i come home in february it should be a case of bolting it in and dropping it of at ricky gauld to get the cams dialed, set up the itbs and get it mapped.

All going well i should hopefully get a test morning in at alford before doune. Fingers crossed!
