Nah, you could still get a spark just possibly too weak. Would lead to hefty mis-firing, exactly as decribed.

I literally just bolted on the gti dizzy and plugged it in. The wiring just reaches, however it's under tension so I'm gonna extend it later. It's a straight swap bud
Thats what my Dad wanted to do, I like the P2 rear splitter so I'd say yes.

nope. gti has 2 as well. i thought this too but i was pleasently surprised to find they are identical except the plugs are 180 degrees rotated round the dizzy

the night i finally got this started it was throwing up fault code 34 - knock sensor
checked it again now that its running good and we are clear
ran up to temp and checked all was good.
stripped loads of bits off the engine to be blasted and painted on boxing day
now the good bit. the dizzy.
it ate itself.

That is EXACTLY the same thing that happened to mine. I've tried 4 rotor arms now and none worked.
Ah I see. Mine had chewed out the inside of the dizzy cap in the same way.
