it may be that one knows the auto magazine from ner?

but with slat grill?

Huh?

The main reason I want the side strips back on is the fading of the paint has left a red line along the middle of the car which is impossible to remedy on the passenger side as it's been re-painted and lacquered...while the strips were on.

Shall do samwise.

So I photoshopped the side skirts back on and I decided it looks better without so they are staying off. You can't see the colour mismatch from 10ft away anyway. Still fancy a VZR in red though.

"Bench marked" the car against a car the silver one did well against and this car was struggling to begin with then caught up and pulled a few lengths. Feels good up the revs but isn't gettin there as well. I think this is a combination of the silver one having had a slightly lower rolling radius (195/45/16 v 205/40/17) and me usually running with no back seats / spare wheel in kate.

I'm off this weekend and next week so it's getting a service on Friday with:

Silkoline Pro S 5-40
Iridium HR6's (it has normal hr5's atm????)
New fuel filter (still wondering whether to use the Z32 one or standard...will decide tomorrow...advice?)

Then it goes to CLCM on Monday for fitment of two new Falken 452's on the front and tracking / alignment check.

Then on Tuesday it goes to Hypertech RR (the one Steve @ FC Tuning uses in Scotland) for fitment of the Nismo AFPR, set up and a few RR runs. I'll then decide if I want to go nistune or not after letting Steve see the info and speaking to Duncan @ hypertech.

I'll try get a sound vid during this time :)

p.s. I also bought uprated beam bushes which should be fitted in the next coupla weeks.

Got a near enough brand new vzr grill... straight from Nissan... do u a swap for the lucino :)

It is in kh3 black though

Pm me if interested.

you not wanting to sort out the exhaust first steve?

i would fit the GTi wheels prior, its what the N15 GTi was meant to have.

Well today I paid a visit to "Billy Big Bore" at Complete Auto Solutions in Shotts to get my exhaust seen to.

First up the car went on the ramp and the old MIJ 2.25" Exhaust was investigated.

Clearly crush bent and with a middle box that was literally falling apart, it was beyond salvaging for a "performance" application. So off it came..

The 2.5" piping was tac'd up with MIG

Then removed and welded up with TIG

The quality of Billy's welds are very, very high.

The back box has been flanged to allow easy fitment / maintenance. Plenty clearance up for the beam too.

Total fabrication time was just under 4 hours.

And you know what, after all that, I didn't even get a pic of the tailpipe! Tomorrow lol.

We also worked out a deal for AOC members who want a similar exhaust made by him. This two box fully stainless 2.5" system with mandrel bends with any tail pipe of your choosing will be £330. His usual price for this would be nearly £400. His work all comes with a lifetime warranty while you have the car.

....

Total bargain. Do love quality looking exhausts like this. Up close and personal with mine tomorrow, fitting it to the black beast. After what you say about the state of the MIJ system I'm SO glad I decided against them. My system is still spot on 2 1/2 years later.

It's weird because Billy said he's seen some of the very best fab work done by them. Seems like there's been a few sub par MIJ's done to our cars though.

I don't think goin to the 15's would make much of a straight line difference as the rolling radius is the same and handling would be compromised, admittedly for greater ride comfort. I suppose I cheated a bit before with taking a bit off the rolling radius and that'll be where the performance difference is...plus STANDARD plugs.

The n/s/f took a hell of a whack though the other day so I'll need to see what happens at CLCM when he tries to balance it out.

GOD DAMMIT I WANT 16's AGAIN!!!!!

What profile u on again? How's the sus setup then?

To be fair my old MIJ 2.25’ mandrel system was very decent. The problem is the place is quiet big and they have a lot of business go through there doors. As we all now 90% of people wanting a custom exhaust system want a stainless steel system, normally just a back box and life time warranty – and that’s it.

Most often than not, you have to tell someone in great detail how you want something doing. Bore size, crush bends or mandrel, how many silencers, size of the silencers, tail pipe design, and noise. All this information to someone on the front desk will be ‘cat back on the GTi please john’, reply ‘done boss’. This nearly happen to me and the chap was half way through making the crush bent system, another chap had to then start from scratch again on the mandrel system.

Im not defending MIJ at all, going back I would not have gone there for my system. Im explaining what can and clearly does happen. Every MIJ system that we know of has quiet possibly been done by different lads at MIJ. MIJ do MOT’s, all makes servicing, brakes, suspension, batteries, tuning, diagnosis, selling aftermarket and sourcing standard parts.

The smaller outfits are better as it’s normally just 2 – 3 guys perfecting the art of exhaust building and not much more.

David it's a point of fact that you didnt have yours for very long though. It seems the problem with MIJ is their longevity. Got to be down to the steel they use and lack of quality. Do understand what you say about different people doing it. That is indeed a problem with big places.

edk - the steel? im sure its the weld before the centre box that went on steve's system. the steel can pit for sure but that in itself isn't a problem.

The weld went on my system yeah but it was the weld on the box it's self, not the one added by the person who made up the exhaust on the car. Billy reckons it went because the boxes were cheap i.e. stainless outside and mild steel inside so they rot from the inside out. This is apparently very very common for exhaust places to do this to keep costs down especially with powerflow. Infact, he thought mine was a powerflow when he first seen it.

Ed, my RR before on silver was 195/45/16 which is about 2.5% less than 195/55/15 (standard) or 205/40/17 I'm using just now...Suspension is standard shocks with PI springs. Worst ride ever.
