Filler has hardener too. Is that green stuff just filler then actually?

Nope the tin clearly stated fibreglass (big boy iirc) on it I'll confirm what exactly it is but he is using it to join fibreglass to fibreglass after keying the surfaces for best adhesion.

Well yeah I would hope so!

Lol so would I hence my mentioning it as he even cut v shaped grooves into the larger surfaces for the additional fibreglass to bond to the existing fibreglass structure. The entire bumper was able to be lifted by the grill once it had cured with just the 1st layer applied.

So was mine when it was made, but sounds like this one won't suffer from vibrations of normal use like mine did :)

Such a tease you are sir, damn you!!!

sorry bud, but they are out there as a member on here recently sourced one for his mk2 escort project, so they can be had :)

the bumper looks to be coming on well, and having to blend it in like the ed mk1 version is no bad thing as it looked awesome on ed's old motor!

Oh I know they are out there have my beady little eye on one but have to wait for a pal to check it out for me to make sure it isn't a pig of a lump etc. ;)

However am buying that Sport + so will decide depending on the condition of that engine and go from there really as don't want to miss out on one and the other falls through so would gladly grab both as can store and sell on if both come off, time will tell but for now the shell is the priority then suspension then hopefully engine (same route I went with GTT to be fair... ;)

Still not sure about it. Fibreglass is never that flexible and any filler I've used certainly doesn't look structural. I'd like to be wrong though because if it does what you're saying I could do with some of it to help out on my current bumper work.

Ed the filler round the grill is fibreglass filler. you can make your own mixing loose chop strands with resin but can buy tins of it in halfords a lot stronger stuff.

interesting point, suppose for me as I was looking to use it to repair part of a bumper that was already fibreglass, it should be spot on

Ok managed to grab a few more pics of the bumper actually on the car with the bonnet and filler. Plan is to build up one side of the grill to suit the headlights and then apply the finishing touch to the bonnet that is due to have the finishing lip to the front welded into place to ensure a snug finish and hopefully the look we were after.

Enjoy the pictures not so many this time, for a change.

Here is the tin of the fibreglass filler used to bond and build up the fibreglassed bumper.

Cheers for the pic of the filler mate :)

The bumper; that is an awful lot of filler for a daily drive! Also the grille looks very... wavy. Especially the lower half of the inside of the open mouth.

The filler is purely there to allow for the smooth finish of the bumper he has laid it on very thick IMHO but most of it will be worked down to provide the best finish.

The grill is indeed wavy as it requires trimming down which wasn't noticed until the bumper was offered up to the car. The bumper by the wing is also very rough as it has been done to provide the rough idea of what is being aimed for.

All these points I raised and my guy laughed as he knew I'd turn up before he'd had the chance to sort the very same issues he found when the bumper was offered up to the rest of the car?

My concern isn't what it'll look like, I'm sure once it's all smoothed it'll be fine, I've no doubt, as it's obvious it's a work in progress right now and Rich's guy's skill is good for that, it's the durability I would be worried about.

Hadn't considered that but with any of his work I am confident it will stand the test of time etc, especially as the fibreglass is well built and fully supported to reduce any previous undue stress.

If you recall Ed the area by the kidney grills/lights had a minor crack but we discovered that was due to that area holding much of the weight of the bumper which has been corrected with the steel plate now welded to the slam panel etc.

But as with anything time will tell & if needs be back it will go if any problems occur. ;)

A minor update on the bumper bonnet work the bumper is now with grill and the kinks have been worked out now and all that is needed is the bonnet to be finished off and we will be ready for paint etc.

While the above was going on the banging 3" exhaust needed to be sorted so GTT was hoist up in the air, the centre section was popped off and a section cut off so the exhaust no longer caught on the heat shield by the fuel tank.

The exhaust now appears to be bang free and will take it for a full test drive speed bumps and all to check for any other issues but so far so good till the daily is ready and back on the road to take the strain.
