I think in the end with the brothers one we put a heap of chemical metal around the seams to solve it and I never leaked after that but looked butt ugly on it.

what rad is that? my koyorad has been spot on, symms had it on his gti that stewart bought and then sold it onto me. thats easily a minimum 5 or 6 years old

has anyone looked into lead welding/soldering to fix leaks in these? as it doesn't need/create the heat that welding does.

Some of the later GTi's came with OE double thickness cores. I got one off Freds V reg' that was 30mm as apposed to 15mm.
I think i'd trust ones of those more than an aftermarket one.

Well I will be keeping a very close eye on it whilst its first on the road.

I have 2 additional water temp gauges instead of relying on the idiot gauge so should anything go wrong I will know quite quickly.

yeah that's right, easiest way is to check the es fitting guide for their bushes as it will mention if there are 2 types
